Pixi Beauty Introduces the PixiGlow Tinker Bell Inspired Collection

I've been excited about Pixi Beauty's Tinker Bell inspired collection for months now, and I received the information below earlier today and wanted to pass it along. The PixiGlow Collection is a Limited Edition Target exclusive that will be available January 29 at Target online, and in all Target stores in March. There's even a nail polish (not pictured)! If you're a Tinker Bell fan, check it out!

It doesn't sound like this collection will be available on the Pixi Beauty web site, but I wanted to mention that if you'd like to receive discounts from Pixi, sign up for their eMail on their site. I often receive up to 30% discounts, and they also offer free shipping at $50.00.

Right on trend, Pixi creator and Target beauty design partner Petra Strand has teamed with The Walt Disney Co. to design the limited-edition PixiGlow collection available exclusively at Target. Inspired by Disney’s most iconic fairy, Tinker Bell, Petra worked closely with Disney character artist John Quinn in a unique collaboration. Together they re-imagined the Tinker Bell of childhood memories into a vintage-inspired beauty who will appeal to women of all ages. Petra shares, “In collaboration with Disney, we created a unique Tinker Bell collection that captures the fresh-faced, glowing, and timeless beauty of both a Disney icon and the Pixi brand by reinforcing that makeup simply enhances and perfects your natural.” Ranging in price from $8.00 to $34.00, the PixiGlow collection will launch on Target.com on January 29 and in all Target stores in March.

L'Oreal Colour Riche: Safari Chic, Now You Sea Me & VIP Status

L'Oreal has released their new Colour Riche polishes, which if I count correctly, includes forty-two shades. You can view their color charts here. According to their Facebook page, these shades are "a brand new product launch separate from our Pro Nails collection. It will be available in retailers nation wide. The products available may vary from retailer to retailer. This is a product launch so it is Permanent but it will be updated with more great colors."

I picked up 3 shades, Safari Chic, Now You Sea Me, and VIP Status. I love that these bottles are still square, but they now have a round cap. My OCD tendancies won't go crazy like they do on their older bottles with square caps that always get out of alignment after the first use! I picked mine up at Meijer using some $1.00 off coupons and bogo half off, but they normally retail there for $5.29 each. The bottles look full sized, but because of the way the interior is formed, the product weight is actually only 0.39 fl. oz.

First up is Safari Chic, a creamy olive green shade. This has pale blue hidden micro shimmer, but it's a shame that it doesn't even show up. For all intents and purposes, this is a creme. I used 2 coats on all of my swatches, and the formula was excellent. I've always found L'Oreal's brushes to be a bit on the stiff side, but these seemed a little less rigid.

Now You See Me is another dusty shade, so of course I had to pick this one up too. This light teal has a touch of green, and I had a difficult time photographing it for some reason. Either my skin was bright red, or the polish was a bright sky blue. The photo above with all 3 bottles shows it looking much brighter and bluer than it really is. I finally was able to capture the true color in lower lighting.

VIP Status is a trickster, because it looked like a duo chrome in the store, so of course after my adreneline calmed down from that discovery, I had to have it! I held it up, turned it around, studied it intently...all of this in the store, and the violet and teal were just beautiful. Of course when I got it home, I took it near a window to see its beauty once again, and the duo chrome was no where to be found. It's still a beautiful color, but I think between the store lighting, the plastic label across the bottle front, and the thick glass base and interior curve of the containment portion, all factored in to what I thought I saw. I'm telling you, it was a duo chrome in the store!

Here's what you'll really see if you pick up this polish...unless you put on your 3D Duo Chrome glasses, that is. This is a beautiful blackened teal shimmer with a thinner formula than the 2 creme shades I picked up. It still covered well using two coats, and even though its duo chrome got lost somewhere between Meijer and my house, I do think it's lovely.

I didn't look through my polishes to see if I had any dupes, but I'd be willing to say that I probably do. These aren't incredibly unique colors to me, but they all have a very nice formula, and I've been fond of L'Oreal polishes since I first became obsessed with nail polish decades ago. Color Club is joining the ranks of polish companies that offer magnetic shades! The photos below are from an ad I spotted in Beauty Store Business Magazine, so pardon the lack of quality from my photograph of the ad. If you'd like to get a better look at these, I see that they're up on Color Club's web site for pre-order. Magnetic Force is the name of the collection, and there are 6 shades. These are priced at $12.00 each, and the magnet is located in the cap.

Happy Monday to everyone! It's hard to believe we're heading in to the last full week of January already, isn't it? All the closer to Spring collection releases! The photos I post every Monday are usually my own, but this was such a stunning view that I just had to share it. This is a photo of the Mackinac Bridge from their web cam taken late last week. I live in the lower peninsula of Michigan, and this bridge connects the lower to the upper peninsula. It's a suspension bridge that spans nearly 5 miles, so if you're afraid of bridges, you might want to just admire it from afar. Below is a photo of it taken in clear weather to give you an idea of just how majestic this structure is. It always scares me driving over it...you know, that fear of being trapped and unable to escape?!! I get the same feeling when driving on the causeway to the Florida Keys, but the destinations are always worth the fear factor!

Here's a look at a lovely little collection from RGB Cosmetics for Spring 2012. I love the vintage simplicity of these colors, and I'm especially smitten with Dew.

MAC has several new collections coming out (what else is new!), but I am counting the days until their Shop Shop Shop Cook Cook Cook collection launches on February 9. There are quite a few nice looking products in that collection, but I only have eyes for the Tendertones. I adore Tendertones, and am beyond thrilled that there are 4 of them in this collection. Who else thinks Tendertones should be part of their permanent line?

NCLA Nail Lacquer: Hollywood & Vine Starlet

NCLA recently launched their first nail lacquer collection, adding to their already successful line of adhesive nail wraps. The LA Collection contains a range of seventeen shades, along with a base/top coat combo product. Based in Los Angeles, their debut collection reflects all that LA has to offer. These polishes retail for $16.00, so they are pricey. The formula on the shade I was sent reminds me of the formula of a Rescue Beauty Lounge or a Deborah Lippmann polish, so it does have a superior formula. I don't see too many reviews online yet for this brand, but I would be interested to hear if their creme formula applies as nicely.

The photo above was taken from the NCLA web site, and what I like about their photos is that if you click on them, they enlarge as shown. This allows you to see how opaque the shade is using one coat and two coats because of the way the splatter of polish is displayed. So many times I find that color samples on web sites are not truly reflective of the actual polish color, so I like the way they display their shades.

The shade I received is called Hollywood & Vine Starlet. The product comes in a sturdy matte black box, and the product size is a standard .5 fl. oz.

Described as an ultra rich black with silver glitter, Hollywood & Vine Starlet is also ultra sparkly.

I used 2 coats over a base coat, and I also applied a top coat (Misa TopTopper) in these photos. There are a couple of very slight thinner areas near a cuticle or two, so I think the next time I wear this shade I'll just use a layer over an opaque black one coater. The glitter is very evenly dispersed, and it dired a bit quicker than average. This shade is sort of an off-black to my eyes--definitely black, but a softer black.

The packaging is nice, the rectangular bottle is heavy and substantial, and I didn't have any problems with the brush. Based on their color chart, they seem to have a very good variety of colors and finishes. They've also come up with some fantastic names, like Pick Me Up At Melrose Place, Rodeo Drive Royalty, and Santa Monica Shore Thing. Lynnderella Lovely Is As Lovely Does Collection: Part II

Today I have a look at part II of Lynderella's upcoming collection, Lovely Is As Lovely Does. If you missed part I, you can click here to view it. As I did with part I, I'll be keeping my commentary minimal, because I've included Lynn's expert description with each shade. I used a top coat (Misa TOPtopper) over each of these, and the only shade I felt needed some glitter taming was Sweets to the Sweet, so Glitter Tamer was applied over it. Again, as with the first 5 shades, nice and easy application, good glitter placement without manipulation, and gorgeous, unique, creative colors, as always.

ChocoLotta Love is a blend of brown multi-sized hexagons and squares, black microglitter, as well as scattered yellow, red, purple, turquoise, lime and emerald "candies" in a sheer chocolate base. Like brownies with M+Ms baked in.

Macro shots are all taken of the bottle, not of my nails with a base color underneath.
Boy-Girl Party is a mixture of red, fuschia, pink, blue, turquoise and royal multi-sized hexagons, squares and diamonds in a transparent pink base. This really surprised me since the combination created an unexpected.

Nosegay (defined as a small bunch of flowers, bouquet or posy) is made with lavender and purple multi-sized hexagons and squares, with blue-violet shimmer in a translucent pale violet base.

Forget You Not is made with multi-sized periwinkle hexagons, pink sparks, blue sparks and cornflower-pink shimmer in a sheer blue base.

Sweets to the Sweet contains translucent white multi-sized hexagons and squares, with scattered yellow, red, purple, turquoise, lime and emerald squares and hexagons in a shimmering translucent white sparkling base. There are also small iridescent green hexagons to sweeten the mix.

Lynnderella Lovely Is As Lovely Does Collection: Part I

Lynnderella will soon be offering another beautiful new collection called Lovely Is As Lovely Does. With a theme of love, romance, and true beauty, this glittery collection of ten shades contains both delicate and soft hues, along with some truly eye-catching shades that will make you swoon. I don't have an exact release date on these, but if you follow Lynn's blog (link above) and join Llrowe's mailing list or follow them on Facebook, you can stay informed.

Let's get started with these works of art in a bottle! If you click on the link above for Lovely Is As Lovely Does, you can view a variety of pictures and read the descriptions for each shade in Lynn's own words. Below is Part I, which will be followed later today by Part II. All of my swatches are used over a base color, and I did not use a top coat in the photos. I've included photos of my base color in case you're not familiar with it, and Lynn's official description is posted at the beginning of each shade. She does a much better job of describing the shades and glitter detail than I ever could, so my commentary will be minimal! All shades applied nice and easy, and I didn't manipulate any of the glitter because their placement was fairly uniform.

Mademoiselle Violette de Bleu is a mixture of royal blue, blue violet, navy, holographic royal blue multi-sized hexagons and squares with a touch of purple and iridescent blue hexagons in a sheer blue-violet base. Some people may know this shade as "Throwing Violets into the Ocean".

Lower lighting (below) brings out a touch of violet in the glitter.

All macro shots were taken of the bottle, not on my nails over a base coat.
Matter of the Heart has red, fuschia, pink, silver holographic multi-sized hexagons and squares with scattered holographic holo hearts in a sheer milky pink base with subtle pink shimmer.

Lovey Dovey contains translucent smokey lavender and pale lavender hexagons and squares, with gunmetal squares and scattered pink hexagons in a dove grey base spiked with subtle pink shimmer.

Love, Lace and Lilacs contains translucent and opaque white multi-sized hexagons, threads (bars) and squares in a shimmering clear base.

At first glance, Love, Lace and Lilacs reminded me to some degree of the hauntingly beautiful Snow Angel, so I wanted to show you a quick comparison.
These two shades are somewhat similar, but they're certainly not dupes. Love, Lace and Lilacs is a whiter white, while Snow Angel is a milkier antique white. The glitter configuration is also quite different in each shade.

LavenDear is a blend of lavender multi-sized hexagons and squares with a touch of holographic pink in a sheer pink-violet base with a hint of iridescent blue shimmer.

How's everyone doing today? I hope you all had a great weekend! I've got some more information on the China Glaze Magnetix Collection for you, thanks to one of my kind followers, Vivian. She took the time to send me an eMail and attach a photo (below) of a poster she spotted at her local beauty supply store recently. Here's what she had to say: I went to my local beauty supply store today, and found a poster saying that the estimated release date is Jan. 15th. This store has been spot on with most of the collections so far (including the new Nicki Minaj and CG Electropop collections), so we might possibly find them in stores before the stated mid February date! The poster also had a clear picture of the actual magnetic, so it confirms that the 10 dollar price includes all 3 designs. Thank you to Vivian for taking the time to update us on this collection!

I always enjoy reading articles about cosmetics, and I came across one on the Financial Times web site that discusses some of the technology that inspires various beauty products, including Minx nail wraps. You can view the article here.

Today while strolling through the aisles in Walgreens, I came across tons of new products. I actually had quite a few of them in my basket, including Garnier's new beauty balm cream, Revlon Colorstay nail enamels, and L'Oreal Infallible 24 HR eye shadows, and their new balm. Something came over me though, and I put them all back on the shelves! I guess I'm still in my cleaning and purging mode that always seems to present itself after the New Year, and I decided that I really had more than enough products at home that I've yet to use. I'm still thinking about those products, so let's hope I don't cave in and go back for them! One item I saw that I thought was interesting--even though it didn't make it into my basket only to be put back--was Goody Hair Care's new DoubleWear elastics. These are nothing more than pony tail holders and head band, dressed up with metal pieces so they double as jewelry if you're not wearing them in your hair. These were priced at $5.99.

Revlon Crazy Shine Nail Buffer

A while back, there was a miniature version of Revlon's Crazy Shine Nail Buffer attached to an ad in a magazine, so I took it out and used it until it could be used no more. I was impressed with how nice it made my nails look, and it didn't seem nearly as abrasive as other buffers I've used. Because I liked it so well, I picked up the full sized product at Rite Aid recently. This products retails for about $3.00.

The buffer measures 3.5"x2.5" and is just over 1/2" thick. The tear drop shape fits nicely in my hand, and the tapered point allows you to get right to the edge of the nail.

Here's a look at my nail before, during and after. In the "before" photo, you can see that my nail has more of a matte finish, and the light reflection on the right side of the nail shows some vertical ridges. After using the grey/green side of the buffer, the nail surface is very lightly sanded and smoothed. The white side of the buffer is then used to further smooth, and deliver a high gloss shine to the nail.

I've got a box full of buffers, and nothing gives me results as nice as this one does. I normally reach for a 4-sided buffer (Tropical Shine brand from Sally Beauty), but the Revlon product is much easier to hold and manipulate, and the end result is so much better. The buffing side of the Revlon buffer is gentler on my nails, and the shine side delivers an unbelievable glassy finish.

After using this product, my nails look like they have a layer of the shiniest top coat imaginable on them. I love that it doesn't take too much off of the surface of the nail when buffing, because there are many buffers that can cause damage if you're not careful. The shine side also does a great job of refreshing nail polish on your nail after you've worn a color for several days. It shines them up and makes it look like you just finished your manicure. The shine lasts for three days on my bare nails, just like it states on the packaging. The only negative point I can report about this product is that the tip of the tear drop section is the first part to start wearing away. That's the part that works best on the edges of your nails, so I then use a section further up the side, which doesn't enable me to get as close as I'd like.

Update: China Glaze Magnetix Pricing

I haven't seen any pricing yet for the China Glaze Magnetix Collection, and I just spotted the information below on Drugstorenews.com. According to the news release, it states that the polishes will retail for $10.00 each, and that the magnets are sold separately for $10.00. It's written in such a way that I'm not certain if the magnets are $10.00 each, or $10.00 for all 3 patterns. Probably $10.00 each, wouldn't you think? But then again, when I look closely at the promo picture, the boxes in the front center of the display look like they could hold 3 magnets. I do like that China Glaze is offering 3 different patterns though. These will be available mid-February.

For reference, Nails Inc. runs $16.00 and includes the magnet, Layla runs $15.50 and also includes the magnet, and LCN runs $9.95 for the polish and $19.95 for the magnet.

As if I needed to see another new collection to tempt me! I noticed that Nordstrom has the Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 collection up on their site, although I'm not sure when they'll be available on Butter London's site.

Click on the photo to enlarge, but I may need Knackered because it looks like it has some duo chrome action going on. Slappy and Bossy Pants also have my attention. Do you see any shades you love?

Color Club Spring 2012: Blossoming Collection

I've been wondering what Color Club had in store for their Spring collection, so I checked their web site and spotted the Blossoming Collection. It appears to be a pastel palette with a shredded silvery holographic glitter included.

Color Club often releases 2 boxed sets/fourteen shades for their seasonal collections, so I don't know if this will be their only offering for Spring. They released an overload of nice collections in November and December, so this may be it for Spring.

Happy 2012 to all of you! I hope everyone has a wonderful year filled with good health, happiness, and lots of sparkly, colorful beauty products! I'm still recovering from all of the Holiday festivities and have spent this long weekend getting reorganized and recharged. Everything but the tree has been put away for another year, and hopefully I'll get that taken care of later today. Many thanks to all of you for spending time on my blog this past year, and I hope you'll join me again this year. My personal resolution with regard to beauty products is to read reviews before purchasing cosmetics items. I often get so caught up in the hype of a product or the pretty packaging, that I don't take the time to learn anything about it before I purchase it, so I'm going to try to be a more savvy shopper this year. Do you have any beauty resolutions?

One of my most recent disappointments was just yesterday with the launch of Beauty Army, a monthly subscription service similar to the Julep Maven or Birchbox service. They've been flodding my Twitter and Facebook with promo information, so I signed up several weeks ago. When they launched yesterday, their servers basically crashed under all of traffic trying to get in on their service. By the time I was finally able to get in to their site, they had already sold out of their initial 300 boxes or kits. This was actually a blessing to me, because I wasn't impressed by any of the products they were offering.

I am excited though about signing up for MyGlam, yet another monthly subscription beauty service. My first Glam Bog is set to be sent this month, and after viewing some of the items in their December Glam Bog, I have set my hopes high that I'll enjoy this service. My Glam was started by Michelle Phan, a YouTube Guru and Lancome make up artist. The service runs $10.00 a month, and each month you receive a make up bag filled with 4-5 deluxe samples from brands such as Urban Dacay, Tarte, and NYX. I do have the Julep Maven subscription also, and I'm going to try not to fall victim to any other subscription services this year. We shall see how that goes!

In nail news, I haven't heard much about Barielle after they were purchased by Fisk Industries about a year ago, and they seem to have fallen behind releasing collections. I just checked their web site to see if there was anything new available, and I saw their Gem Stone Earth Collection, which is new to me. Lancome is set to launch their Rogue in Love and Vernis in Love line mid-February, which contains 24 new nail polish shades. Scroll down in this post from BeautyAlmanac.com to view the shades. Lancome also has a beautiful collection coming out for Spring 2012 that contains 3 delicate polish shades, including the one that caught my eye called Green Almond. A little off-topic, but a good reason to stay indoors and swatch for me! We live on Lake Michigan, and we always have long cold winters with lots and lots of snow. The older I get, the less I enjoy it, and it was extremely unusual for us to have a green Christmas this year. Not that I minded, because even though it's pretty and festive, I don't enjoy it at all anymore! We've had no measurable snow fall yet this season, but that will all change today. The red dot is my location and I am not looking forward to it.

Each Sunday I'll post a topic for discussion, and my hope is that we can learn a little more about beauty products and style from each other. Jessica Cosmetics Peacock Queen Swatches & Chanel Fall 2011 Comparisons

When I initially saw the promo picture for the Jessica Cosmetics Peacock Queen Collection, I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking that the shades looks extremely similar to Chanel's Fall Illusions d’Ombres de Chanel Collection. The good news is that if you held off on the Chanel collection, you can purchase the Jessica collection in its entirety for less than you would pay for just one of the Chanel shades. The Jessica collection is indeed identical to the Chanel collection, for all intents and purposes.

Color-wise, there really is not a noticeable difference, as you can see on the nail wheel above. Formula-wise, both brands have a nice formula that allow for an easy application. The Jessica polishes have a bit more opacity after one coat, and the sparkle and micro glitter is somewhat more intense in Jessica's Smoky Feather than in Chanel's Graphite. When I study these colors very closely, I see that all 3 of the Jessica shades are ever so slightly darker than the Chanel shades, but I honestly don't think the average person would notice this difference at all. The Jessica polishes retail for $7.50 each, while the Chanel polishes retail for $25.00 each. Below are swatches of the Jessica collection using 2 coats.

Bronze Tailed is a beige/taupe neutral shade with multi colored shimmer. This is my least favorite of the three, just as Chanel Quartz was my least favorite of their collection. The shimmer is primarily silver, but it tends to take on a slight silvery/aqua shade in lower lighting.

Smoky Feather, a medium silver grey pewter hue, is filled with multi colored micro glitter that sparkles and glistens beautifully against the base color. The gold glitter seems to be the most prominent, and like Chanel Graphite, this shade can flash a bit of olive green in lower lighting.

Iridescent Eye is a gold to olive duo chrome that also exhibits shades of a brighter green, antique gold, copper, and bronze, depending on the lighting. Like Peridot, this shade seems to show more gold than green.

If you love the shades in the Chanel collection but didn't want to pay the price, this collection is an excellent alternative, albeit certainly not an original collection. Chanel is Chanel, and personally, I do like to splurge on some Chanel cosmetics because I do love them and I can't afford their clothing and accessories! Some may say they're not worth the price, but I say they're worth what they're worth to you, not to someone else. I am also very fond of Jessica's formula, and even though it's not a brand that seems to get a lot of attention for some reason, they have an excellent formula that I highly recommend.

The above swatch was taken using my light box, and when I turned out the lights I was amazed at the sparkle and glow these glosses had even in lower lighting, below.

This shimmer body powder is a bit pricey at $29.90, and I'm not crazy about the packaging. It measures almost 7" in overall length, and about 1" in diameter on the tube that contains the product. The wide silver ring at the base of the brush can be twisted to an open or closed position. The brush itself is very large and fairly soft and fluffy. The product comes out in the center, and it doesn't dispense too much at a time, so you can blend and click more out if you need to. I'll talk more about the dispensing and the brush below.

I couldn't get a decent photo of this, but it gives a touch of shimmery pale gold to your skin without looking like a glitter bomb dropped on you! It has a very nice scent that I can't quite put my finger on, but it reminds me a bit of Dior J'adore.

The lip glosses get a big thumbs up from me, but I'm not entirely sold on the body powder. The powder itself is smooth and finely milled, but the packaging seems sort of big and clunky. I don't wear a lot of body highlighting powders, but in the summer when I have a tan, I sometimes put a bit on my shoulders or lightly down the center front of my legs. The brush on this is so big that it's a bit difficult to get the powder placed exactly where I want it to be.

Even though it's a subtle color, I want to be able to place it more strategically than this type of packaging allows for. As I mentioned above, the powder comes through a fairly small area in the center of the brush, but when you blend it using a brush that large, the entire brush head picks up some of the powder as you blend. So rather than applying it just to your shin bone or collar bone for example, it's going to spread far beyond that specific area.

That being said, I would like this product more if it were in a loose form with a smaller brush. I have an OPI body shimmer that I apply with a brush, and it gives me the ability to apply it exactly where I want it. Because it's loose, I can also use it as an eye shadow and a shimmery bronzer/highlighter on my face. I also use Michael Kors Leg Shine with the same purpose, except that it's a push up stick (like a deoderant, for lack of a better way to describe it) that allows me to direct exactly where it will be placed.

The Amika Mini Leopard Styler makes a great gift, and it's very reasonably priced at $25.00. There's nothing wrong with gifting one to yourself, either!

This product comes with a sturdy leopard print nylon zipper storage pouch that measures 4.5"x7.5".
The pouch contains the mini flat iron, a detailed product instruction guide, and a 0.1 fl. oz. packet of Amika's Obliphica with Argan Oil Treatment for frizz free and nourished hair. This treatment can be used on damp or dry hair. The iron has a 6' cord, 1/2" 100% ceramic floating plates with Far Infared Heat Technology, dual voltage for travel, and it maintains an even temperature of 400 degrees.

The iron itself measures just over 6". With its petite size and leopard print pattern, it's cute as can be! Not only is it cute, this little powerhouse is so much nicer than my previous mini flat iron. The plates glide through my hair easily without pulling, and it does a fantastic job of straightening. My hair is cut in a short choppy bob right now, so it's perfect for that style. Even if you have longer hair, this would work well to straighten the ends and keep those baby hairs around the hair line in check. I also have a stubborn little cowlick, and this iron allows me to get much closer to my scalp than my other mini, so that pesky annoyance is a thing of the past now.

The on-off is a simple switch with an red LED light that lets you know that it's on. This has a set temperature of 400 degrees, and I haven't noticed any damage to my hair after using it daily for more than 2 weeks. My previous mini had a high/low setting, and always used the high, although to be honest, I don't know what that temperature was. When my hair is longer, I use a Solia flat iron and set it at 350-375 degrees. This iron heats up in just 10 seconds. For reference, my hair is extremely fine. The handle of the iron has a textured grip heat resistant area, making it easier to hold on to.

I am completely satistied with this little flat iron. It's made very well, and in addition to having 100% ceramic plates, this styler also has ceramic heating elements behind the plates. Most conventional irons that claim to be ceramic, actually use metal heating elements behind the plates. The great thing about ceramic plates is that they radiate far infared heat, which preserves moisture in the hair shaft and protects the hair cuticle from damage. The portability of this product makes it perfect for the gym, travel, or even carrying in your bag for touch ups later in the day.

I just received this cute Tarte Puttin' on the Glitz set over the weekend, and I received an eMail from Tarte that it's on sale today only for $33.00 (regular $48.00). They're also offering free expedited shipping (use code GLITZ) on this product, so if you're looking for a last-minute Holiday gift for someone or for yourself, this is a nice selection.

I haven't had time to play and swatch mine yet, but I wanted to show you some of the detail and give you my initial thoughts in case you're thinking about picking one up. The product comes packaged as a boxed set that includes 3 palettes, a lip gloss, an instruction card for various looks using the product, and a silver faux python leather bag. In more detail:

•3 interchangeable palettes for a total of 18 eyeshadows, 1 Amazonian clay 12-hour blush, 1 Amazonian clay shimmering powder and 1 park ave princess Amazonian clay bronzer

•maracuja-infused lipgloss

•reusable purse that features 4 credit card slots and a removable mirror

•detailed "get-the-look" instruction card

Below is the carrying bag, the 3 palettes, and the gloss. The bag measures about 6"x5", and the chain is a gold link-style that's plenty long enough to use as a crossover. It zips all the way around 3 sides, so it's secure when closed. Each palette is 3"x5", and they flip open like a book.

The inside of the bag is a deep plum fabric, and it has slots for credit cards, cash, and i.d. cards. There's also a removable mirror, and an elastic loop holder for the gloss. The zipper has the Tarte logo stamped on the pull.

Each palette has a set of snaps on the edge, so you can quickly and easily snap on into the bag. There's enough room in the bag that you could fit a brush in there for the eye shadow, and a small blush brush would possibly fit in as well.

These palettes have a magnetic closure, but I would use caution with them because the magnet hold is fairly weak. My only concern is that they could get nicked or scratched if you're not careful. I'll talk more about the packaging after the photos.

Here's a quick look at each palette. These are very generous in size--the shadows are 1" square, and the blush, bronzer, and shimmering powder each measure about 1"x2.25".

I am a fan of Tarte products, so if you are too, or you're intersted in exploring this brand, this is a great value. I apologize that I didn't have time to swatch these, but I wanted to get this up while it was still on sale in case you want to order one for the Holidays.

The assortment of shades is plentiful in the eye shadows, and there are both matte and shimmer shades. If you haven't tried Tarte's Amazonian Clay products, they are extremely nice. They're smooth and pigmented, and they wear very well for me. The shadows can be used both dry and wet for additional pigmentation, although they are plenty pigmented when used dry. The matte dark brown shades look like they would work very nicely as an eye liner or tight liner when applied with a dampened brush.

The blush is Amazonian Clay Darling, which is a soft shimmering coral pink. The Amazonian Clay shimmering powder shade is called Champagne, and this would work well not only as a highlighter, but it could also be used as an eye shadow. The Amazonian Clay bronzer is Park Ave. Princess, Tarte's best-selling bronzer.

The PureOptic lip gloss is a medium pink shade that is sheer, but definitely puts out some nice subtle color. It also has a soft minty scent.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the overall packaging concept. I love that each palette is portable, which is great for traveling and they don't take up a lot of room in my make up drawers at home. I'm not one to touch up my eye shadow and blush on a regular basis, so I doubt I'd carry these for a night out. Beacuse the magnetic closure isn't all that strong, I'd be fearful if I did carry one in the little bag, that I might damage the products, say if I had a brush in there and it somehow nudged its way into the palette.

Even though I may not use it the way it's marketed for, you can be sure these palettes and the pretty gloss will get plenty of use from me. There are endless looks you can make with the variety of shades and products that are included in this set, from neutral looks, to smokey eyes, and so much more. If you've priced some of these products individually, you know this is a great deal. The bag will get some use from me as well, because I can fit a few products in there that I do use for touch up (the Tarte gloss, a powder compact, and an eye pencil). Sometimes, I don't want to carry a larger bag to an event, so this will hold the essentials. It's not made out of top quality material, but it's well made and it is glitzy!

I haven't seen or heard anything about this China Glaze collection, but while I was google searching for pictures of the old China Glaze shade Out on Safari, this lovely array of shades popped up in my search. One of the sites that featured this collection called On Safari, is a Dutch site, and you can view more here. That site mentions a June 2012 date. The other site I saw it on can be found here. I have no idea if we will actually see this collection, but I hope that we do!

China Glaze Colours From The Capitol/Hunger Games Collection Preview

Did anyone see this yet? Ha-Ha! I'm sure you have, because everyone's been posting it, but it deserves the recognition! China Glaze is one of my favorite brands because time and time again, they're consistent without being predictable. I can always count on them to develop collections that offer a nice range of beautiful and unique shades. Tie that in with an awesome theme like The Hunger Games, and it's no wonder this collection is causing such excitement.

Below is the official color swatch card from China Glaze, who says "This collection of 12 new nail polish shades is inspired exclusively by one distinct setting in The Hunger Games - the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes."

I'm very excited that this collection is definitely going to happen now, because when the news broke that China Glaze and Lionsgate were at odds about the whole deal, I was really disappointed. Now that it's "official", I can't wait until these come out March 1, 2012.

Are you a fan of these shades? I can't even begin to pick a favorite, because the majority of them look gorgeous and unlike so many other colors out there in the market. Actual swatches may dispel that thought, but I'd probably but them regardless, simply because they're associated with The Hunger Games! Have you read The Hunger Games and the sequels? I have read the first two, and when I get done reading the book I'm just finishing up, I'm going to download Mockingjay on my Kindle.

The Hunger Games movie comes out on March 23, 2012, and there is a sequel to that movie that's due to be released November 22, 2013. I'm hoping that China Glaze releases another collection to go along with that sequel!

Not only is it on sale, but you'll get a $3.00 Register Rewards coupon at check-out. Make sure to use the $1.00 off Revlon coupon that can be found in the "Make the Season Stunning" coupon book that you should be able to find on the counter in the cosmetics department.

That's a great deal! $3.99 - $1.00 coupon = $2.99 out of pocket + $3.00 register reward. Go back tomorrow and use that $3.00 register reward and another $1.00 coupon, and you'll have paid just $3.00 for two polishes. Now if my Walgreens would just get in the display with Whimsical in it, I'd take advantage of this!

John Frieda Precision Foam Color

I recently received a coupon in the mail from Rite Aid for John Frieda's new Precision Foam Color. My hair is naturally quite dark, but I have it professionally colored and highlighted most of the year, going several shades darker and reducing the highlights during the winter months. Every now and again I color my own hair, and being short on time these days, I'd thought I'd take advantage of this coupon. This product retails for about $12.99 a box, and the coupon was for a completely free box.

Here's a look at a portion of the product pamphlet, showing the contents. There's nothing out of the ordinary when compared to most at-home dye products, other than the bottle applicator type. The tip or nozzle is a "foamer", allowing the product to be dispensed as a light foam, rather than a typical liquid.

The foam is dispensed by gently squeezing the bottle. I did wear the gloves when I applied the product...I just waited until after I was done with the process to photograph so I didn't get hair color on my camera! The foam is first applied to your hand, not directly on your scalp like most hair color products. After applying the foam to your hair, you gently massage it in. I basically used the same motions I use when washing my hair. You then allow it to process for 30 minutes. I couldn't seem to capture it well in my photos, but the foam is filled with tiny shimmer or glitter, which I thought was interesting.

I selected the Medium Chocolate Brown color, and here's how it turned out. It's much more vibrant than the color on the box shows, it's darker and richer, and it's more mahogany/copper than chocolate brown. The lovely Gia from Nouveau Cheap mentioned to me that she had heard this hair color runs dark, so I chose a couple of shades lighter so I wouldn't end up with Elvis hair! They offer a shade called Deep Cherry Brown, which I was immediately drawn to, but I was afraid that it might turn out much darker than it appeared on the box. As it turns out, the shade I ended up with in actuality, looks much closer to that shade than it does to the shade I chose.

The shade below shows the shade I used according to the product's web site. This is how it looked on the box as well, so I would recommend as Gia did to me, to keep in mind that this shade doesn't run true to the color shown on the box.
I'm happy with this shade on my hair, and it's extremely shiny and soft. The application was easy, and because the product is a foam, I didn't experience it dripping or running onto my face or neck like I do when I use a traditional hair color. The scent wasn't strong or unpleasant, and the color that was on the skin at the edge of my hair line came right off.

Would I purchase this product again? Personally, while I'm very happy with the application process and the end result, I probably would not, simply because of the price. When I color my hair at home, I typically use Revlon Color Silk, which retails for $2.99 a box. I have some pesky grey hairs at my temples, and no matter what type of color is on my hair--professional or drugstore--those grey hairs pop out within 10 days of a color treatment. Now, if this product manages to keep them covered for 3 weeks, I might be more inclined to spend the extra money on it. I prefer having highlights to just a single color process, so I don't color my hair myself all that often. If I did color my own hair on a regular basis, I still think I'd stick with the Revlon. The application is easier and neater with the John Frieda product, but otherwise, it didn't do anything more for me than the Color Silk.

To be fair, I'll give it a couple of weeks and then update this post on my thoughts again. Initially, I say that the results are not that different from the Revlon product, but I'll re-evaluate the shine factor and color for fading (copper hues tend to fade fast on me no matter what the brand), and the gray coverage at the end of this month.

Happy Monday to everyone! We had out first snowfall last Thursday night, and the photo above shows our quaint little downtown area early Friday morning. It looks pretty and festive, but after the holidays, I'd be happy to never see snow again. Sadly, that isn't the case here in Michigan!

Even though there's snow on the ground, Chanel already has their Spring 2012 Harmonie de Printemps Collection up on their site. Note that she is a Canadian blogger, so the pricing she quotes is higher than in the U.S., and I'm hopeful that the U.S. will also have access to this collection.

Pantone Announces The 2012 Color of the Year

Sephora and Pantone announced yesterday that they had partnered to create a SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSE™ color collection that would launch in March 2012, and that the collection would contain products in the tangerine/orange color family. That gave me a pretty good idea what Pantone's Color of the Year would be for 2012, and this morning Pantone confirmed this by naming Tangerine Tango as the color that would influence fashion across the board next year.

This partnership does allow for future collections and collaborations, so if you're a Pantone fan like I am, and a cosmetics junkie, this is exciting news! The inaugural limited edition collection will contain a range of products that include eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish and accessories. Pantone is the global leader on color, and has long been the authority who sets the standard for the fashion and design industry. Their Color of the Year typically starts the trends that are introduced each year in fashion and home design.

There are less than three weeks left before Christmas...how's everyone doing with their shopping? I need to really step it up this week and get things finished so I can enjoy some of the festivities without worrying about shopping and wrapping! Reports are surfacing that nail polish sales are up 59% in the first 10 months of 2012, which is an impressive figure. I imagine that figure will increase once the holiday sales are calculated in. Do you feel that you've acquired more nail polish this year when compared to previous years?

Always a sucker for packaging, I fell in love with the looks of this polish. These are not available in the U.S. I don't believe, but I found them online at Debenhams. The brand in called Filthy Gorgeous, and I think the lace print cap and attached guitar pick both add a very unique look to the design of the product. It looks like they also offer a magnetic polish line, which is something I've yet to try. However, rumor has it that one of our favorite polish lines will be introducing their own magnetic line, so if that rumor holds true, I think we'll all be very excited!

Eva Chen, beauty editor at Teen Vogue, recently posted this photo on her Twitter feed. I absolutely love Revlon's Lip Butters, and L'Oreal recently released these pretties, which seem to be a similar product. They're called Balm, and while I can't tell too much from the photo, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the third one over from the left in the top row is a possible Clinique Black Honey dupe. Nouveau Cheap has some readers who have spotted this offering already, and you can read more about them in her post here. She is hoping to have more shades to share soon.

Estee Lauder Michael Kors Exclusive $39.50

I used to think that Estee Lauder was for older women, so I never paid a lot of attention to their products over the years other than the occasional nail polish. Ever since Tom Pecheux was named as Estee Lauder's Creative Makeup Director, I've taken much more interest in their color cosmetics. He has given their line some fabulous new creations, and I'm following and using this line more than ever now. The fact that I am also an older woman now, may have something to do with it too!

One of my favorite discoveries of Mr. Pecheux's was his Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee, which sold out shortly after it was released. I adore this product, so I knew when he incorporated that same type of formula into the recently released Pure Color Gelee Powder Eye Shadows, my obsession with Estee Lauder would be unstoppable. Carson Pirie Scott was having their Buy More Get More Beauty sale yesterday, so I took advantage of discounts which are seldom available at the make up counter and picked up the last of the "Cyber Eyes" shadows needed to complete my collection. As I was checking out, there were some mysterious red boxes behind the counter, and when you tie my favorite bag guy, Michael Kors into my Estee Lauder obsession equation, I'm in big trouble!

The Estee Lauder counter girl (my enabler) kindly showed me what was in those boxes, and if you're a Michael Kors fan, you'll want to grab one of these before they're gone. The photos I'm showing you are photos I took of the promo card, and the products are even more stunning in real life. This exclusive collection will be available at Carson Pirie Scott beginning tomorrow, and will be available only while supplies last. I don't know if it will be available at other Estee Lauder counters. It's priced at $39.50 with any Estee Lauder fragrance purchase. Last year Estee Lauder had a similar Coach promotion, which sold out very quickly.

I was able to open a set up and look at it, and the eye shadow range is right up my alley. The olive green shade is so pretty! You don't know how badly I wanted to bring this home with me today, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up when the promotion begins. My enabler is going to ring it up first thing in the morning for me, so I know I have it before it sells out!

New L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Color Collections

L'Oreal just shared these collection photos (click to enlarge detail) on their Facebook page, stating that this is "a brand new product launch separate from our Pro Nails collection. It will be available in retailers nation wide. The products available may vary from retailer to retailer. This is a product launch so it is Permanent but it will be updated with more great colors." It seems to me that I've seen a couple of these shades out already--Stroke of Midnight is currently in a little four-piece Holiday collection at my Walgreens. I definitely see some shades I'll want to pick up, including Tweet Me, VIP Status, and Safari Chic, shown in the first two collections below. I also like the fact that these have round caps, because their square ones always get out of alignment, which makes me crazy!

New Early 2012 Collections From China Glaze

China Glaze will be offering several new collections after the first of the year, and I have promo shots of two of those collections. The Crackle Glitters Collection looks like an extension of their Crackle Metals Collection, but perhaps a bit more glittery. Prismatic is a mix of glitter and holographic glitter. I don't know about you, but I'm in a bit of a crackle/glitter overload right now, so I don't think I'll be indulging in these collections!

It's almost Christmas, and Santa Claus made an appearance over the weekend at our town's carousel. I hope all of you in the U.S. survived Black Friday--I didn't brave the crowds, and I'm not ordering anything today on Cyber Monday either. I'm tempted by all of the great deals, but honestly, I'm starting to tire of the countless eMails and Tweets I keep seeing! All of my Thanksgiving decorations have been packed away, and this week I'll be decorating for Christmas. Hopefully I'll have that all done by the end of the week.

I have been so busy getting ready for Thanksgiving that I don't have too much to share with you today, so I hope to get back to blogging more efficiently this week. If you're a fan of Deborah Lippmann, I do have this lovely collection to show you. Eva Chen is the beauty editor at Teen Vogue, and she posted this photo on her Tumbler account recently. Several beauty editors got together with Deborah Lippmann to create a Spring 2012 collection, and from what Eva wrote, these will be available in March at Nieman Marcus.

Here's another reason why I love my Meijer store! I spotted these peppermint cookies this morning, and I just had to bring them home with me. They're like the Holiday Oreo Cookies, only they have tiny peppermint chips in the filling.

As if that wasn't enough to make me happy for the day, I also received this coupon, which means I'll have to buy something with it so it doesn't go to waste :)

China Glaze/AII Files Lawsuit With Lionsgate Over Hunger Games Nail Polish

Last week I read a piece on Cinemablend.com that said the Hunger Games Nail Polish Collection from China Glaze was not happening. It didn't mention too many details, but I just spotted a more recent article from The Hollywood Reporter that also indicates a problem with this collection, which you can read below.

'Hunger Games' Studio Hit With $10 Million Lawsuit Over Nail Polish Deal (Exclusive)UPDATED: American International Industries says it has a deal to create the nail polish as part of the film's upcoming promotional campaign but that Lionsgate has improperly terminated the contract.

Lionsgate, the studio behind the upcoming film version of The Hunger Games, has been sued for $10 million by a beauty products company that claims it is being jerked around over a deal to create special nail polish in connection with the movie's March release.
'Hunger Games' Nail Polish Debuting in 2012'Hunger Games' Trailer Sparks Strong Reaction From Fans of the Book Series'The Hunger Games' Trailer: 5 Instant Observations While WatchingLos Angeles-based American International Industries, which says it is the country's largest privately-held manufacturer of personal care and beauty products, filed a lawsuit Wednesday in LA Superior Court. The company claims that it closed a deal in late October to create a Hunger Games-branded version of its "China Glaze" nail polish, as well as contribute to the promotional campaign for the adaptation of the popular Suzanne Collins novel that Lionsgate is hoping will be a mega-blockbuster movie series similar to Twilight.

But shortly after Lionsgate executives signed the contract, according to the complaint, the studio made statements to the press that the deal was "not happening," and asked American to say that the parties "were merely 'discussing' a 'possible' promotional deal." American says it refused to lie, prompting a Lionsgate attorney to send an email on Nov. 17 saying that the studio was "terminating" the contract.

"However, the contract does not permit Lionsgate to unilaterally terminate," argues the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by THR. "Lionsgate attempted to justify its actions by claiming that American had supposedly 'leaked' information about the contract to the press. The claim was and is completely untrue--American did not 'leak' any information, and so informed Lionsgate immediately."

American says it purchased millions of dollars in nail polish materials and expended substantial time and labor in reliance on the fully-executed contract, and it wants $10 million in damages.

We've reached out to Lionsgate for comment and will update with a response.

The suit, filed by Charles Harder and Michelle Goodman of LA's Wolf Rifkin Shapiro Schulman & Rabkin, alleges one cause of action for breach of contract.

Lionsgate declined to comment on the suit.

Nailene Introduces SensatioNail for At-Home Gel Manicures

Nailene will soon be introducing their at-home gel manicure system called SensatioNail. This product joins a couple of other systems that have recently been released for an at-home gel nail experience, namely Gelish and Red Carpet Manicure. I've been using the original Gelish system for over a year, and while I don't use it regularly because I like to change my nails almost every day, there are those rare instances when I simply don't have the time to devote to this, so I give myself a Gelish manicure. Deborah Lippmann has created a limited edition Edge of Glory set for the Barneys New York Gaga's Workshop, and I think this is the first time I've seen a Lippmann Holo. This set retails for $45.00, and Barneys is donating 25% of all proceeds from this and other exclusive items in the Workshop to the Born This Way Foundation.

It's getting to be a challenge in keeping up with Deborah Lippmann releases! Between her HSN exclusives, her regular line, and other special limited editions such as this one--she's a busy lady. I won't be buying this set, but it is nice to see a holo from her. Hopefully she'll introduce some more holos in the future.

Lynnderella Mysterious Ways

Lynnderella Mysterious Ways is one of the polishes from her most recent collection, Funny Money. The official color description is spot-on, saying that "It features a grey-violet base with multi-coloured shimmer, white, silver, gunmetal and holographic hexagons, diamonds, squares and dust. The holographics look amazing peeping out of the translucent grey. Like buried jewels." I used two coats over Revlon's Mistletoe, a dark grey shimmer filled with very fine green and silver micro glitter. Mysterious Ways, because of the translucent base, only alters the color of your base shade slightly. This makes it the perfect glitter top coat to enhance any shade without drastically changing your base color. This shade had a very good formula that was easy to apply, and the glitter dispensed evenly without any manipulation.

Here are a couple of macro shots taken of the bottle showing the wide variety of shapes and colors.

Just for fun, I used one coat of Color Club's The Great Divide over Mysterious Ways & Mistletoe, which is one of their crackle polishes. I then topped it off with Glitter Tamer, Lynnderella's clear top coat.

I believe Lynnderella's store is now closed, but she is scheduled to re-open again this coming weekend. In case you haven't heard, Lynnderella's polishes will soon be available at Llarowe. December is the target date that stock will be available, and this may help some of you who are International. How was everyone's weekend? We were pretty lazy here, so I have no complaints! Not too much going on to report today, but I've got a few things that may be of interest to you. First up, the winner of my most recent Winter Hand & Skin Care series is Nina Patricia. She will receive a Strawberry Lemonade Body Scrub from 100% Pure! Congratulations to her, and I'll be showcasing another product in this series later on in the week.

Models Own Beetle Juice Collections are starting to make their way to those who ordered them a couple of weeks ago, and while I didn't get any because I wanted to wait and see how the swatches looked, The Swatchaholic did a great job of convincing me that I probably need to order these. I went to Meijer this morning, and after waiting for the frenzy to subside around the frozen turkey freezers, I picked out our Thanksgiving Day bird. Seriously, people were fighting over the turkeys! I needed to decompress after that scene, so I headed over to the cosmetics department to see if there was anything new and exciting. There were some new displays, including Sally Hansen's Gem Crush and some off-brand holiday packs. Nothing made it into my cart from these photos, but Color Club's display hooked me!

The crackle fad was pretty much over for me until I spied this Color Club display. I have some of their standard colors, but I've not seen some of these other ones before. The purple one is called Do You Want A Piece, and I thought it looked kind of "glowy", so I picked that one up. The Great Divide is just all kinds of gorgeous, so I had to add that one into my little haul! Burgandy Burst is an odd way to spell Burgundy, but it was such a deep, rich color, I thought it might work well for a Holiday look.

In getting ready for Winter, my clothes and accessories have now been transferred! All of my Summer things are put away, and my Winter items are all organized in my closets. I was sorting through my winter scarves trying to be creative with my knotting abilities, and I came across this helpful site that shows all kinds of different ways to tie and knot scarves. If you're like me and a little bit impaired when it comes to this sort of thing, maybe you'll find this helpful. Check it out here.

Revlon Color Burst Lipgloss Limited Edition Holiday

Damn, Revlon! Quit coming out with so many fantastic lip products that I love! After the Colorburst Lip Butter craze consumed me, I thought I would be satisfied. If only. I just spotted these pretties on Ulta's site, and I am once again having strong feelings of desire. The Revlon Color Burst Lipgloss Limited Edition Holiday appears to be part of their Spice It Up collection that I saw on Nouveau Cheap and Steph's Closet. I thought I was safe when I saw their display pictures, until I spotted them again on Ulta and made the mistake of clicking the zoom button!

Decadent is one I must have, and there's several others that look interesting to me. Ulta's zoom feature is also to blame for the fact that I may need some of the nail polishes in this Holiday collection. Right now they're buy one get one half off at Ulta, and I believe Revlon is on sale at Walgreens starting tomorrow, also buy one get one half off. I've found a $1.oo off Revlon coupon in People Magazine's last two issues, and it would be a shame to let those expire now, wouldn't it?

Duri Twilight Inspired Nail Polish Trio With Swatches

Duri Cosmetics has put together a trio of Twilight inspired shades, and I have swatches of them for you today! Duri offers a wide range of shades and finishes, and they're reasonably priced at $5 per bottle. Their formula is very nice, and I used two coats on these shades. The bottles are full sized at 0.5 fl. oz., and if you appreciate bottle architecture like I do, you will love these. They're quite substantial and heavy, and they're embossed with the Duri name on all four sides.

Moonlight Glow is a top coat polish, and this sheer milky white iridescent shade with a hint of blue shimmer is recommended by Duri as perfect for an exquisite overlay for a french mani. While I don't do many french manicures personally, I found this polish to be very useful as a color transforming top coat over just about any base color. This is what it looks like applied over Black Diamond, a near-black shade from Duri shown further down.

The shimmer particles are almost plush looking, and this shade gives a somewhat gradient look with movement of your hand. I haven't tried it over lighter shades, but blue is the very obvious color over darker shades.

Here's a quick and easy soft tye-die look I did using a base of From Dusk Till Dawn (seen further down), a coat of Moonlight Glow, 7-8 small random dots per nail of From Dusk Till Dawn applied with the brush, then another coat of Moonlight Glow applied almost as soon as I finished the dots.

Black Diamond is a black creme shade with extremely subtle tiny silver glitter. Duri describes this as a black polish with silver luster. Shown in full sun--not that you'll see the Twilight characters dare to emerge into the full sun, for fear of drawing attention--the silver is somewhat evident, but in the shade (below), it appears as a slightly off-black creme.

From Dusk Till Dawn is a vampy medium burgundy creme with a jelly finish. This is described as having a semi-sheer finish, but that isn't the case, at least with my bottle. This covered beautifully using two coats, and it's very creamy and opaque.

Reviva Labs Stem Cell Booster Serum

Reviva Labs recently introduced their Stem Cell Booster Serum, which claims to "make skin more responsive to the day or night cream applied over our serum." In addition, they note that Swiss research with volunteers aged 37 to 64, determined a significant decrease in crows feet wrinkle depth for 100% of the participants.

I'm no expert when it comes to understanding plant stem cells and how they interact with human skin, but in reading many articles and studies about the possibility that they can improve both skin and hair regeneration and growth, I don't believe that it's an entirely unfounded claim. Plant stem cells, particularly the Swiss Apple Stem Cells that are found in Reviva's serum, are becoming a much sought-after ingredient in skin care. Most of the studies and articles show promising results, and the majority of the products that contain these cells are very expensive. Reviva's is by far the most reasonably priced serum I've come across.

Here's a look at some of the benefits and the ingredients from the packaging label.

Testing skin care products to determine how well they work can be time-consuming, but I find one of the best ways to truly know if a product works well for me is to use it for at least 3-4 weeks. I then switch to using another product, and during that time I may notice that my skin just doesn't look as good (glowing, smooth, even) as it did previously. I then switch back to the product I was using, and often times, I can achieve that "good" look again.

That's what happened to my skin with this product. While I may not have noticed any dramatic overnight sensation, I was happy with the way my skin looked and felt while using it. Because I look at my face every day, it can be difficult to determine just how well something's working because the changes are so subtle. Sometimes, it's when I stop using a product that I realize just how effective (or ineffective, depending on the product!) it really is.

This product was furnished to me for review, but I can tell you that I've been happy enough with the results to purchase two more bottles. Is it really the elusive Uttwiler Spatlauber Swiss Apple Stem Cells that are doing the trick? I have no idea, but I'm starting to believe that they have something to do with it! I do know that when my skin looks good, it always gives me a boost of confidence, so this product will remain in my skin care arsenal.

If you've been thinking about trying a skin care product that offers apple stem cells, this is one that you might consider. It's priced at $30.00 for a 1.0 fl. oz bottle, and I only use one pump in the morning and one at night, so a little product does go a long way. I apply this as my first product over cleansed skin, followed by my moisturizer or another serum and then my moisturizer, depending on my skin's needs. One pump gives me enough product to cover my face and onto my throat, which is an area that should be focused on as much as your face with skin care products.

Tom Ford recently expanded his cosmetics line, and my first thought when I saw the collection online, was that they were expensive and not unique. I haven't seen swatches of anything yet, so maybe I'll change my mind once I do. But I had to laugh at this comment I read on Style Bistro regarding the NYC opening of his boutique in Bergdorf Goodman last week. "The most popular product that was the first of many to sell out? A chocolate-brown nail lacquer called Bitter Bitch. Refinery 29 admits that’s exactly how they would feel having to shell out $30 for a nail polish- agreed."

Women's Wear Daily is reporting that Karl Lagerfeld will introduce a capsule color collection at Sephora, beginning November 6. From WWD: Sephora’s “Designer of the Year” — has created for the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned perfumery chain a doll in his image, a snow globe and capsule collection of color cosmetics — including nail polishes and eye shadows — plus accessories for the holidays. They are to hit counters in Sephoras throughout Europe and Singapore. I don't know if the collection will be available in the States, but is it wrong that I want the doll most of all?

Today was one of those days that kept me running non-stop, and I'm glad I can finally sit down and relax! The trick-or-treaters have come and gone, and while it makes our dogs crazy, it's fun to see all of the little kids so excited and dressed up. So if this Come Monday edition seems a little mixed up, it's because I'm seriously disorganized today! I try to make notes of interesting things I see and read during the week so I have some hopefully interesting content to share with you on Monday, but my notes are scattered about and not making as much sense to me now as they did when I wrote them! Lots of things to cover including some winners, so let's get started.

Crazy to think that tomorrow is November 1st, and you know that means Holiday shopping. Have you started yours yet? I've made a very weak attempt at it, and I'm going to try and tackle the bulk of it next week. Black Friday info is starting to emerge, and for those of you who brave that day for some bargains, Target has announced that due to consumer demand, they will be opening at midnight, rather than their usual 4:00 a.m. I seldom participate in Black Friday, because it's crazy! There are some great bargains to be had if you're willing to fight the crowds though. All of the hype over Revlon's Lip Butters made me recall a Black Friday deal from Walgreens years ago that I did partake in...they had Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses for .99 each, but there was a limit of two or three, so I drove to all three of our Walgreens and snatched up my limit, then I made my husband do the same. He wasn't too happy about it, but I was! Does anyone remember that? It had to have been seven or eight years ago.

Here's a pretty good deal I saw on InStyle for RGB Nail Polish. They're offering 30% off through the month of November. I keep meaning to order some of these because I've yet to try them, so maybe now is a good time.

I see where Cargo is offering an Ulta Exclusive on nail polish, and I love Cargo Cosmetics. I seem to group Cargo, LORAC, and Smashbox into the same category for some reason, and I have always been impressed by all three of them. You can view this collection on Ulta's web site here.
I was trying to let my hair grow out this year, but three weeks ago I decided that wasn't working out, so I had about 5" cut off. It looked fine for a couple of days, but then it just would not style right no matter what I did. So of course I decided to take the scissors to it myself! That is never the answer, so tomorrow I'm going to go in and have her trim things up and do something like this. At least I hope it looks like this when we're done. Now I don't have blonde hair and unfortunately I look nothing like Jenna Elfman, so we shall see! Back away from the scissors, Mary.

Frightful! Forgotten Halloween Giveaway!

New Duo Chrome! Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Black Tie

Once again, I can thank (blame!) Nouveau Cheap and one of her readers for this purchase! Last night I saw her post here, and I made a mental note to be on the lookout for this new Sally Hansen Diamond Strength display. Erika, one of her readers and the owner of the blog Polish Fixation, should be thanked (blamed) as well, for discovering this huge collection! There are lots of new shades in this collection, but the only one I really wanted was Black Tie. Of course, once I start to see more swatches, I may have to go back for some of those other shades.

Black Tie is a purple to deep teal duo chrome that I would say has an average or just slightly below average duo chrome flash to it. These were all taken outdoors in some shade to show the duo chrome, but when I had the nail wheel in full sun, it looked to be a purple shimmer with little to no duo chrome. That's why I rate it a little below average in the duo chrome department. It's still a gorgeous polish, and I love these two colors together.

These are priced at $3.98 each, and I found the display at Wal-Mart. I used two coats on the nail wheel, and from that limited use, the formula seems to be fairly pigmented and easy to work with. Have you spotted this display yet?

BCA 2011: Dermelect Resurface Stem Cell Reconstructing Serum

This product retails for $75.00 (1.0 fl. oz. bottle), and is available at C.O. Bigelow, Henri Bendel in NYC, The SkinStore (currently on sale for $52.50), and Dermelect.com.

Dermelect Resurface Stem Cell Reconstructing Serum comes packaged in a sleek and modern heavy plastic encased aluminum bottle with a built-in pump top dispenser. This product doesn't come cheap at $75.00 for a 1.0 oz. bottle, but thankfully I just need to use one pump for a complete facial application. The product itself is a lightweight clear gel serum that has a lovely light rose scent. It feels soothing on the skin, and doesn't leave any tacky residue. It absorbs immediately, and seems to smooth the surface as soon as it's been applied. I've been using this as my first step product, followed by a facial moisturizer. Dermelect recommends using this twice daily, in the morning and evening.

Stem cells are rapidly becoming very popular in skin care products, and while I certainly don't claim to understand it entirely, there are numerous studies that show various plant stem cells to have a positive effect on our skin. The main purpose of the cells is to protect and potentially regenerate our skin cells, while preventing further damage. I'll be honest and tell you that my understanding of the concept is very basic, and it would seem that there is quite a difference between human and plant cell biology when it comes to repair and especially growth of new cells. I'm inclined to believe through studies and doctors that I've talked to about this subject, that the repair/prevention factor is absolutely something that plant stem cells (some plants more than others, obviously) are capable of when used in skin care. I'm still researching the actual ability they have if any, to grow new human skin cells, which is something I'm not so certain of.

That being said, this product did seem to produce visual benefits to my skin, such as glowing, smoother skin, lessening of fine lines, and moisture retention. I finished up another stem cell skin serum in September that I'll be reviewing tomorrow, and I also had very good results with that product. I'm intrigued and curious about the validity of stem cells in skin care, so I'm going to continue to read more on the subject.

Welcome to my ongoing Winter Hand & Skin Care Series! If you missed the first installment here (still open for entries through 10/30/11), I'll be focusing on products that can help your skin confront the colder months ahead. I have a number of products I've been sampling, and I'll share reviews with you, as well as giveaways associated with select reviews, tips & tricks for cold weather skin care, and more.

Cuticle care is something that's very important to maintain, particularly during the Winter months. Our skin loses more moisture in the colder temperatures, and dry cracked cuticles are often the first thing we notice as the colder months approach. I have quite an arsenal of cuticle care products that I like to use, but none of them are designed specifically for portability. Saffron Rouge, an on line retailer specializing in organic cosmetic and beauty products, sent over Dr. Hauschka's Neem Nail Oil Pen for review, and included one for a giveaway. Dr. Hauschka introduced his skin care line in 1967. "The concept was and continues to be simple: infuse nature’s healing qualities into each preparation in order to stimulate the skin's ability to find its way back to balanced health." Their product range includes items for the bath and shower, body, cosmetics, facial care, and hair care. They are a natural, sustainable, and cruelty free company. Let's take a look!

The pen itself is the same length as a Sharpie marker, and a bit wider in diameter. The product size is 0.13 fl. oz. and it retails for $18.90. Both ends are capped, with an applicator at one end, and three refill tips at the other end. The applicator tip is very firm, and is much like a Sharpie marker in its composition. I'm not sure why I keep comparing it to a Sharpie, but it is a good comparison! I should have turned it a bit more in my photo, because the opposite side has a slant to it, which is designed to allow you to easily push back your cuticles when applying the oil. You can see the slant better in the photo of the refills, below.

The convenience and portability of this product makes it perfect for carrying in your bag, and it allows for a mess-free application. You won't have to worry about any residue on your hands and fingers, because this applies directly to the cuticle and it dispenses just a small amount. It isn't necessary to rub it in, but it seems to work better for me when I use it that way. It's not a perfect solution because I feel that it should dispense a little more product than it does, and I've been known to remove the wrong end of the cap more than once! But it is a great option for a portable cuticle treatment for those times when you're out and about and realize that your cuticles need immediate attention.

Provide intensive care to cracked and brittle nails and soften dry cuticles with this nurturing oil. The convenient stick is perfectly portable and contains disposable tips for easy-to-use cuticle application. The fiber-like tips also help push back cuticles as you quickly dispense as much or as little oil as needed by applying pressure to the stick. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter Complete Master List & Swatches

Revlon recently released a new lip product called Colorburst Lip Butter, and I absolutely love these. Between three of my friends and myself, we managed to come up with all twenty of them and I thought it might be helpful to put together a master list. We found ours at various Rite Aid and Walgreens stores and they retail for $7.49 each. Rite Aid had them 40% off last week, and this week Walgreens has them buy on get one half off. We were all armed with $1.00 off Revlon coupons, so that helped out also. In addition, I had a 10% off register tape from Rite Aid, along with a $5.00 off register tape, which I believe are based on the Wellness card. So shop around to see who has them on sale, and ask your Walgreens sales associate if they have any of the $1.00 coupons behind the counter.

The lip butters are packaged with various semi-translucent caps with a quilted or woven pattern. The displays we saw were all the same table top model with only two or three of each shade. The "new" sticker is attached, but I didn't see anything about this being a limited edition product, so hopefully they'll be permanent.

The reason I love these butters so much, is simply because they feel, look and wear so nicely. They are softer and more sheer than a lip stick, but not at all sticky like many glosses. They're smooth and creamy--love the texture, well pigmented for the type of product that they are, and they leave my lips feeling ultra moisturized and soft. They're a sheer lip stick with the smoothness of a gloss. They remind me very much of my Chanel Rogue Coco Shine lip products (not sure what to call these newfangled things, not a stick, not a gloss!), without the high price and with preferred wearability. The lip butters provide more than a sheer wash of color, but less color than the average lip stick. They wear well, and after testing how long they wore vs. the Chanel, the Revlon product definitely has better staying power.

The Revlon Lip Butters are full sized, and they have an angled top rather than the typical rounded point that's seen on a lip stick.

When compared to a Chanel Rogue Coco Shine, you can see that the packaging is the same size. The product weight is a little smaller on the Revlon at 2.55 g. vs. 3 g. on the Chanel. The products themselves appear to be the same diameter, and the only difference is that the Chanel has a slight dome shape at the top of the color product.

Here's a quick look at all of the shades that Revlon offers in the Lip Butters. These photos were taken indoors in the sun near a window (top photo of each group), and also indoors using natural lighting (bottom photo of each group). I used two light-handed swipes for each color, and the color is buildable to a certain point. Keep in mind that these are swatched on my inner arm, which is pale :) They will appear darker on your lips, because they're more pigmented! All photos are clickable for a larger image.

Here's an alphabetical list of all of the names and numbers for reference. We all had so much fun tracking these down and getting some great pricing in the process! Clearly, we need to find a more meaningful hobby~ha-ha! I hope this helps some of you out who are interested in this product.

This set gave me my first introduction to the Decleor line, and that's primarily because it's what I consider a high-end or luxury skin care line. My frugality tends to drive me toward more affordable products, especially with skin care. Facial products require continuous use, often with a number of products in the regimen, so it's difficult for me to justify the price. If I somehow won the lottery, you can be sure I'd be all about having the luxury to afford a line like Decleor, because I truly enjoyed the results. While they didn't turn back the hands of time twenty years, they did offer an improved look to my skin that I don't quite see with my normal routine.

The packaging is very elegant, the products do deliver positive results, and the essential oils provide a wonderful aromatherapy treat. The main changes in my skin that I noticed were smaller pores (more than I've ever noticed with any other product), a more even complexion that seems to have a "glow" to it, and a reduction in fine lines around my eyes. One especially good result I also noticed, was that the area around my eyes seems less puffy in the mornings, and my dark circles from constant lack of sleep have been diminished considerably. That's the good news! The bad news is that it would cost me $260.00 to purchase all three of these products in their full sized packaging. I'm off to buy a lottery ticket!

Deborah Lippmann for Juicy Couture Holiday Nail Polishes

Deborah Lippmann has teamed up with Juicy Couture for the Holidays! These sets are available for pre-order here, and each set of three retails for $48.00. The are simply called the Gold or Pink set.

I especially love the look of the Gold set, and the bottle caps look like they have a large rhinestone in them. The gold flakie in the center would be my first choice, but I don't think I'll spring for the whole set just to have it. They are pretty to look at though, don't you agree? I don't think these shades are repromotes, but I could be wrong.

Winter Hand & Skin Care Series & Giveaway: Seed Healthy Hand Cream & Therapeutic Hand Scrub

The leaves and the temperatures are falling, which means Winter will be upon us before long. It's beneficial to keep your hands hydrated all year long, but in colder climates, additional steps are necessary to combat the lower temperatures and drier air if you want your hands to look their best. Between the cold dry outdoor air and the indoor dry heat that our hands are exposed to during the colder months, it's important to remember that skin loses moisture much faster.

I've been sampling a number of products that can help in the effort to keep your hands and body soft, supple and protected when the elements are harsher than normal, and I'll be sharing the ones that work best for me in my Winter Hand & Skin Care Series over the next couple of months. I've got some giveaways planned, some home made remedies you can try, tips and tricks, and several commercial product reviews planned. I hope you enjoy this series and that you learn something that can help you out with your winter skin woes!

Seed is a company founded on the belief that the products we use in our day to day life should be safe for us and environmentally friendly. Their products are enriched with grape seed oil, which contains polyphenols, an antioxidant that has been proven to slow down the effects of aging. Grape seed oil also also contains linoleic acid, a fatty acid essential for healthy skin. The benefits of grape seed oil are plentiful, and it is also an excellent supplement when taken internally.

Let's take a closer look at Seed's hand care duo! These products provide a complete do-it-yourself home hand treatment that leaves your hands soft and supple, while protecting them from the elements they face in the colder temperatures. The products include a Therapeutic Hand Scrub and a Healthy Hand Cream. This two-step process is quick and easy to do, and remember that no matter what products you use to keep your hands in shape, the key is to use them consistently.

The Healthy Hand Cream is of medium consistency, and the scent I'm using is Relaxing Lavender (also available in fragrance-free, and exhilirating citrus). This scent has a fragrance very true to its name, and it doesn't overpower any other scents you may be using. The Therapeutic Hand Scrub contains scrubbing grains to exfoliate, brighten and smooth the skin. The ingredients used in this also help to maximize moisture by removing dead skin cells.

The process simply involves applying a dollop of the hand scrub to your hands, working it in for a minute or two using small massaging circular motions, then rinsing it off. I also make sure to massage the scrub around my cuticle area, because they seem to need extra smoothing and moisture during the Winter months. Hint: Use lukewarm water when rinsing hands, because hotter water temperatures are more drying to the skin. Seed recommends using this product once a week or as needed, and to refrain from using it on raw or cracked skin. I have been using this product twice a week.

After towel-drying hands, apply the Healthy Hand Cream as your moisturizer. Hint: I don't dry my hands entirely before applying this. By applying moisturizer to damp skin, it helps to trap the moisture in the skin better. I apply this several times throughout the day, particularly after washing my hands and before going to bed. This cream feels slightly oily during the application, but it absorbs well and doesn't leave your hands with that slippery feeling. Give it less than a minute, and any oily look or feel is completely gone. This product contains several beneficial oils including grape seed, jojoba, lavender, sunflower and coconut. It also contains shea butter, a popular and effective ingredient that I'm very fond of.

Both of these products are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. I find that my hands seem to remain soft to the touch, and look moisturized and healthy longer when I incorporate an exfoliating product into my routine. I can always tell when it's been 3-4 days since my last Therapeutic Hand Scrub treatment, because my moisturizer doesn't seem to last quite as long between applications. This is a reasonably priced product set that delivers results after the first use. It also works just as well on other areas such as my feet, elbows and knees.

Yay! A MAC Collection I'm Finally Excited About!

Fashionista has a great look at an upcoming MAC Cosmetics Collection that I'm really looking forward to! I haven't been too excited with their offerings as a whole lately...but the Gareth Pugh for MAC has me feeling as giddy as their Barbie Collection and their Venomous Villains Collection did.

This mention about the nail polish is what first caught my eye: But can we discuss the nail lacquers for a second? Gareth wore them layered and it had this amazing beetle-like finish with an iridescent sheen. The three lacquers are Inert (creamy mid-tone grey/nude), Ascension (grey with blue violet reflective pearl), and Hyper (deep blue with violet pearl).

After looking at all of the photos, I think I may just love everything about this collection! The lip glasses look gorgeous, and the packaging is very interesting. Swatches will be the deciding factor, but it does look promising. This collection will be available beginning November 23. Hello! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Lots of topics today...nail news, some winners to announce, and some off-topic things I found this week to be interesting and worth a mention. Well, we knew it was only a matter of time! So many "celebrities" are coming out with their own nail polish line, and if there's any truth to this article, Snooki will soon join the ranks of the Biebs, the Kardashian's, and others.

On an off-topic note...that's what these Monday posts are for!--as my regular readers know, one of my passions in addition to nail polish and make up, is animals. Rescue dogs are at the top of that list for me, so I was elated to read that our government is in the process of hopefully finalizing a bill that would bring hope to service men and women, and homes to rescue dogs. I know I'm not alone when I say that I've become extremely disillusioned by our government these days, so the fact that this is in the works gives me a little more faith in humanity. Representative Michael Grimm (pictured below) from New York, successfully passed his Veterans Dog Therapy Training Act in the House last week. The bill allows for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder to train rescue dogs into service dogs. The dogs will then be given to disabled veterans to help them in their daily life.

I have long held the belief that unemployment could be lowered and animals could be rescued by some sort of program that would encompass training the unemployed to work with rescue animals. Those animals in turn would then be sent to loving homes with a need for service animals. Dogs have so many abilities that can help people, and I truly believe that their potential for training and service in these areas is a resource that hasn't been explored nearly enough. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Senate passes this bill now. You can read the article about this bill here.

I'll close this weeks Come Monday with another passion of mine...food! Have you tried the limited edition Sweet Autumn Shake from McDonald's yet? These are so good...a light mix of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Limited edition food items are almost as bad as limited edition nail polishes, only this time, I was lucky enough to find them! Illamasqua Poke

Illamasqua Poke is a "bright violet purple" with an assortment of silver, violet, and blue shimmer. This was sent to me by a dear friend of mine who I need to hire as my personal shopper, because she has impeccable taste! I don't have too many Illamasqua polishes in my collection, and every time I use one, I wonder why that is. The formula is well above average, and they have a wonderful range of shades and finishes. My Sephora F & F code is waiting to be used, so I do believe I'll add a couple of Illamasqua polishes to my order.

Poke is a very photogenic polish! I normally take tons of pictures for a product, and end up with a couple that are usable. Every single one of these turned out nicely, but it's still prettier in real life. The blue shimmer is the color that stands out the most to me, and it's lovely. The shimmer colors all contrast perfectly with the purple base, making it look like it has a light sprinkling of sugar over it. We live in an area that produces a large amount of grapes, and this reminds me of a crisp Fall morning when the grapes have been lightly coated with the first frost.

I used two coats out of habit, but it was nearly opaque after just one coat. The purple shade shifts from a violet to a rich medium purple color, depending on the lighting. Many thanks to my friend for sending this to me...I love it!

City Color Nail Polish

Last month I saw a display at Rite Aid that contained six City Color brand nail polishes. The name on the display was simply "Glo". I believe I picked up some shades from this line last Spring, but they were in larger square bottles. I've done a little Google searching, and I have no idea who manufacturers these, or who City Color is. There's nothing on the label that indicates a company or a location, and the colors themselves are somewhat nameless. The label on the back says Nail Polish, followed by Dark Green and Reddish Purple in parentheses. I'm curious to know if anyone else knows more about this brand.

The bottles are small, weighing in at only 0.170 fl. oz., and they're priced at $1.99 each. But you also get a nifty rhinestone in the cap for that price! The City Color name is actually just printed on a peel-off label. The formula seemed nice enough though, and other than a rogue brush hair that I had to cut down to size, I found that they applied nicely using two coats and they dried at a fairly quick speed.

Here's a look at the less-than-creatively-named Reddish Purple. This shade has an off black base and is filled with small reddish/purple glitter...hence the name "Reddish Purple", I guess! The off black gives it a bit of a smoky look--almost like it has a slight film over it. This is a very pretty color, and it definitely deserves a more descriptive name!

Dark Green also needs a better name, don't you think? This is a lovely turquoise shimmer that has almost a plush texture look. The shimmer is very fine, but plentiful. It's more of a blue/green while the base is a turquoise, so it seems to have some depth to it in real life that I wasn't able to capture with my camera.

My little Greta girl is missing her true love, Gus. All of the dogs normally make a mad dash for the door when I go out to take my pictures, but she's been very sad since we lost Gus last week. Today is the first day I haven't had to coax her to come out with me, so I know she's healing in time, just like the rest of us.

Amika Curl Defining Cream

Amika Curl Defining Cream is a lightweight leave-in product that's designed to enhance your curls, leaving them soft and workable without a stiff or crunchy feel. My hair is very fine, and while it is naturally curly, there isn't much of a pattern to my curls. I tend to blow dry it and flat iron it, rather than fight the curls, but this product allows me to embrace the curl with ease.

What I like about this product, is that it seems to hold the curl/style well, but my hair is completely touchable without the stiffness that most curl enhancers have. It has a light fresh fragrance, and I only need a small amount to do the job. The first time I used it, I applied a bit too much, which left my hair a little greasy looking. I blow dry my hair with a diffuser until it's almost dry, then I rub the product between my hands and work it into my hair. It does a great job separating the curls, and as you can see by the ingredients, it's also a treatment that adds moisture and replenishes your hair.

On the days that I choose to spend less time on my hair, this product allows me that option. My hair looks like it was styled with a purpose, as opposed to looking like I didn't spend any time on it at all. The reason I didn't like to wear it curly in the past is because even though I spent a lot of time on it, I just couldn't get the curls to look smooth and even, unless I piled on a product to the point that my hair was stiff. I think hair should look soft and touchable, and that's what this product provides for me.

New from Stila-Nail Polish!

I was happy to see that Coastal Scents introduced nail polish to their product line a couple of weeks ago, and now Stila has also entered into the polish arena! I just received an eMail introducing their polishes, and they are beautiful and glittery! You can view their polishes here.

According to their web site, they are offering two sets--the Daring Collection (top) and the Delicate Collection (bottom). The bottles are 0.25 fl. oz. in size, and they are sold as four piece collections. Each collection is priced at $24.00.

What do you think of about these? I have and love quite a few Stila cosmetics products, so I'm happy to see them offering nail polish!

Jessica Cosmetics Peacock Queen Collection (a duo chrome!)

I tend to get abnormally excited when I see a duo chrome in a collection, and this one really has me eager in anticipation! I first saw the unknown-named duo chrome in a slide show presentation on the Jessica web site last month, and though I've sent them an eMail to inquire about the who-what-when-where of this beauty, I have yet to hear back from them.

This picture is an ad that I just saw in my November issue of NailPro Magazine, so I'm hopeful that it will be available very soon. Fingers crossed that it looks like that in real life!

Butter London Holiday 2011: The Black Knight & Tart With A Heart

I ordered two of the three shades that Butter London is offering in their Holiday 2011 Collection, and here's a look at them! First up, is The Black Knight. This black creme is filled with multi colored tiny glitter that has a hint of holographic action. I used two coats and the formula was good with a standard base coat, and excellent with a fiber base coat--more on that below. The first photo was taken outdoors in the rain, and the second photo was taken indoors. I also used a top coat over this shade.

Tart With A Heart is a pale milky pink tinted shade with a hint of grey, filled with color-changing iridescent glitter, also with the slightest hint of holo. This has a jelly-like formula and it's shown using two coats and a top coat. While it actually gives fairly good coverage on its own, I think this shade is best suited as a top coat over a darker shade to add some sparkle.

Both of these shades are very sparkly and twinkly, perfect for the Holidays and beyond. I did try a coat of Tart With A Heart over a few darker shades on a nail wheel, and it adds a nice subtle layer of multi colored sparkle. The Black Knight is absolutely gorgeous...it's one of those polishes that's hard to photograph because it has so much glitter. I initially used two coats over a standard clear base coat, but found that two coats still looked a little light. It wasn't streaky, but the base was almost a deep charcoal and it didn't quite look right to me. I cleaned it off, used Orly Nail Armor as my base coat, and two coats looked much better. The fibers in Nail Armor help build up the black base color quicker, and I ended up with a strong black base, rather than a base that didn't contrast as well and make the glitter stand out as much.

These retail for $14.00 each, and they are limited edition shades. Fairy Lights is the other shade in this collection that I didn't get, but it's described as a "liquid metal rose pink".

Coastal Scents Haul & Cosmic (the flakie one!)

I've languished in sorrow for days now over the loss of our dog, but the mail man brought something today that finally gave me some incentive to blog again! Let me just say that your comments and eMails have been absolutely touching, and we appreciate each and every one of them. Thank you.

Coastal Scents recently launched a new nail polish line, which I noticed last week when I was looking for a palette...more on the palette below, because now I want all of their Go Palettes! I ordered three of their polishes along with the Moscow Go Palette on Saturday, and they arrived from Florida to Michigan today. I have a few Coastal Scents products that I've gotten in swaps, but this was my first time ordering from them. I'm completely impressed with their service and their products, not to mention their reasonable pricing.

Cosmic is the only flakie in their line, but I'm just happy they offered even one flakie. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come from them and we'll see more offered in the future. This is a black based creme with iridescent flakies. Green is the prominent flakie color, and there is also quite a bit of coppery red and gold, which shows up nicely in real life, and not so nicely in my photos. The first coat was fairly thin, but a second coat was all it took for a complete look. It has a smooth finish and I did use a top coat over it. It is raining out, so excuse the occasional rain drop!

The bottles are relatively small at 0.2 fl. oz., and they retail for $3.95 each. If you do the math though, that price is really not out of line in today's market. I am not a fan of the packaging for a couple of reasons...round bottles are hard to hold for photographing! The main thing I don't like about the packaging, is that the cap is large for my hand to maneuver, and the stem is very short. The cap is so large and so close to the brush, that it casts a bit of a shadow over my nails, so I had a little trouble getting a clear view of what I was doing. This isn't a deal breaker for me, because I adore this polish. It's just a thought I wanted to make mention of.

This photo gives you a look at how short the stem is, and how the cap is somewhat overpowering.

Here's my little haul! I also chose Solar, which looked like a pearly white infused with gold on the web site. In real life, it appears to be more of a pale gold, but I haven't swatched it yet. My other nail polish choice was Tweedia, a very pale aqua shimmer.

I've been lusting over the Go Palettes, and rather than order a bunch of them sight unseen, I opted to get the Moscow palette to see how well I would like them first. Well, I love them! Do I see more of these in my future? Yes!!! These are very well made, and they include 12 shades. The palette measures 3"x3" and each shadow is about the size of a dime. The mirrored case is quite heavy, and it comes in a box. The best part is that they're only $8.95 each.

I'm very happy with my first Coastal Scents order! The quality of the products seems to be very good, they do not test on animals, and their customer service/shipping is excellent. The bad news is that I now want to place another order!
