Pixi Glow Tonic Review

I'd heard the buzz for months about the wonders of Pixi Glow Tonic before it became available in the U.S., and when I received an eMail that it was finally in stock on the web site here, I clicked over with excitement. That excitement was short-lived though, because it sold out immediately. I took that as a sign that I really didn't need to have this magical elixir in my hands. It's not like I needed another skin care product promising things that likely wouldn't hold true. So I moved on...until I received another eMail announcing that it was back in stock. Curses. I HAD to order some!

I've been using this product for about 3 weeks now, and after the second week, I wasn't going to take any more chances, so I ordered a couple of back-ups. During the first week, I will admit I was a bit irritated that I'd bought this, because 2 pimples emerged on my ordinarily clear skin. Knowing that this happens with new products, albeit rarely for me, I continued using it morning and night. The second week is when I started to notice a change in the way my skin looked. Smooth. Glowing. Luminous. Radiant. Hmm, maybe all of the hype was right!

Toners, which is what I would classify this as, have never been a regular staple of my skin care routine. I'd used them religiously when I was younger, trying to combat oily skin. As I've aged, my skin is more "normal" or slightly "combination", so I haven't felt the need for a toner. Oily skin is actually a good thing to have when it comes to the aging factor, and most toners felt like they were stripping my face of oil, thereby drying it out. Glow Tonic is very gentle, and I love that it's a daily exfoliator also. It seems to add hydration, which is very welcome after this harsh Winter.

There is nothing bad I can say about this rose gold coppery liquid magic potion. Is it truly magical? I wouldn't quite describe it as such I suppose, but it really is an amazing potion. Let's face it, aging is something I think we all want to keep at bay for as long as possible. At my age, dull skin, wrinkles, and all of those other good things seem to appear much quicker these days, despite my efforts to control them. This product is a real game-changer for me. My skin looks better each this rate, I'll turn back the hands of time 30 years by the end of March! That's an exaggeration I'm sure, but this has been money well spent, no doubt about it. Oh, and it smells divine! I do think Pixi should consider making this in 5 gallon containers and I can start applying it all over my body! The fountain of youth has been discovered!

Sample Spotlight: Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser

I'm making a personal effort to work my way through some of the samples I've received, and while I enjoy trying them, only about 10-20% make the cut to something I actually purchase because I loved the sample. Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser ($28.00/5 fl. oz.) is one such sample. This bonus sized sample was offered as a 100 point perk from Sephora a while back.

Pretty, don't you think?!! This product is a black gel-like fluid that has a warming sensation when used. That's an added bonus for the fun factor alone, but it does feel very nice and relaxing on my skin. Is it odd that I look forward to using this just for that warming element? The heat sensation doesn't last too long though. The scent is earthy with a hint of licorice, and it does produce a lather, but I would say just a moderate amount. It rinses clean away, and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. My pores are almost completely cleared, so that is a big plus. Radiant skin and clear pores. Sample succeess!

When I went to Sephora's site to order a full-sized bottle, I saw they had a new product, the Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal for $18.00, so I ordered that also. I'm noticing more and more skin care utilizing charcoal (as the black cleanser does as well), so I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Below are the ingredients in the cleanser:

Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser Ingredients: Glycereth-26, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Alpha Glucosyl Hesperidin, Glycolic Acid, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Ceteth-25, Oleth-10, Butylene Glycol, Citrus Paradisi Seed Extract, Xanthan Gum, Water, Charcoal Powder, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil.

Retail: $28.00/5 fl. oz.

New Product Alert! Lancôme Lip Lover Dewy Color Lip Perfector

I received an eMail from Lancôme  announcing these as an "exclusive pre-sell for a limited time only". Dewy color lip perfector is how they describe the new Lip Lover product. They're priced at $23.00 each, and are available in 5 shades. More description from their web site:

Captivating color intensity combines with the hydration of a balm in this new 3 in 1 elixir formula that truly loves your lips. Now get the color & shine you crave without sacrificing on moisture, because your lips deserve everything they love!

  • Balmy Base = 8H moisture
  • Smoothing Layer = Dewy Shine +     Reduces Look of Fine Lines
  • Saturated Pigments = High Color

Curse all of these companies coming out with so many beautiful lip products this Spring! I have to go place an order now, all because I was drawn in by the whole "dewy color lip perfector" line.

Laura Mercier Lip Glace in 13 New Shades for Spring

Coming in March, Laura Mercier will introduce 13 new shades to a beauty industry favorite, their Lip Glace ($25.00) line. Lip Glace is a high-shine, perfectly pigmented lip gloss with rich, long-lasting colour and brilliant shine that creates the appearance of fuller lips. Any skin tone is virtually enhanced by creating a subtle contrast in texture.

I have been carrying Charmed, a neutral Lip Glace in my bag this Winter and it's gotten a lot of use. With Spring right around the corner (hopefully!), I think I need to replace that shade with Nectar. Do you see any shades you love?

Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Ink in Ruby Extract & Beige Extract

The Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Inks are available in 12 shades, and retail for $14.00. I picked up two shades recently, Ruby Extract and Beige Extract.

Packaged in a tube with a screw-off applicator, the tubes measure about 4.5" in length and have the name and number printed at the end, with a fairly close representation of the color behind it. The wand has a doe foot applicator.

Ruby Extract is a highly pigmented cool-toned berry red, and Beige Extract is a much less pigmented neutral shade of beige. The photo on the left is one swipe, while the photo on the right shows the stain left after wiping with a make up remover wipe. There is just a trace of color from Beige Extract, but Ruby Extract leaves a decent amount of stain.

From the Sephora web site:

What it is:
A zero texture lip ink that leaves the lips soft, bathing them in intense color.

What it does:
This must-have Lip Ink delivers intense color with no sticky residue. It provides buildable coverage for a natural, sophisticated, or glamorous look. The weightless formula leaves lips stained, soft, hydrated, and refreshed upon application.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates

Research results:
In a use test on 23 voluntary participants:
- 100% of women found the Rouge Infusion color to be intense

RETAIL: $14.00

I am impressed by how hydrated my lips feel from these lip inks, and they are indeed weightless and non-sticky. There's no need to build up the color on Ruby Extract, as this one is plenty pigmented with one application. Beige Extract on the other hand, needs a couple of layers to really show up for me. These have a very slight scent and taste, but it's pleasant to me and not terribly noticeable. I didn't experience any feathering or bleeding of the product, which surprised me on the Ruby Extract, because it is so pigmented.

My color choices were decided upon to give me both ends of the spectrum--a pale shade and a deeper shade. I enjoy the feel of these, and I like that they don't dry my lips out as some stains do. Beige Extract is being used more as a gloss and I'm reapplying periodically throughout the day because it is such a light color to begin with, it just doesn't last color-wise. I find that Ruby Extract can be used as a stain that has a semi-matte finish when blotted after the application, or I can add a layer of lip balm or clear gloss to make the shade even more intense. This particular one lasts about 6 hours before the color begins to fade. I might pick up another shade or two, but I will go with something that's pigmented like Ruby Extract rather than one of the lighter shades.

New from Lancome: Hypnotic Eyes Collection

I was browsing Macy's website for some Lancome products so I could take advantage of their super cute GWP, and I noticed a new collection called Hypnotic Eyes. My own collection of their Color Design 5-Shadow and Liner Palettes is always expanding, and seeing these three new ones isn't helping me to control that! I jumped over to Lancome's site to see if there were more/different pictures, and I noticed their description says that these are MATTE! I die.

The collection also contains 5 new shades of their Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadows, and their finish description reads "Shimmer to sheen and metallic to matte". Eclair, the shade on the far right, looks like a taupe beauty that I may need in addition to one (or three!) of the 5-shadows.

Here's the GWP that started me down the road to this evening's cosmetic-induced financial ruin! This is free with any $35.00 Lancome purchase.

Just for fun, here's a picture of me at a Lancome event last February with Lancome's National Make Up Artist Alex Sanchez, at our local Carson's counter. I live in a small town, so I was thrilled that our counter was able to offer this event. It was a great learning experience, and Alex was so informative and just a super nice guy.

Winter Skin Care: Orly Argan Oil Hand Creme & Cuticle Drops

Raise your hand if your cuticles and hands have been ravaged by dry air and sub-zero temps this winter! I picked up this pair of Orly products last month at Ulta, and they're doing a tremendous job for me.

The Orly Argan Oil Hand Creme and Argan Oil Cuticle Drops have a little stronger scent than I'd like, but the citrusy aroma dries down in a relatively short time so I can live with that. The creme is of a medium consistency that feels very luxurious and silky. It absorbs almost immediately for instant relief and soft supple skin. The cuticle drops have the same scent and they seem to absorb faster than many other drops I've used. I need less than half a drop per finger--the "little goes a long way" is definitely applicable to these drops!

This pair is working wonders on my hands, and other than not being crazy about the scent, I'm very happy with both of these products. I've been adding a few drops of the cuticle oil into the creme for added protection in this crazy weather we're having, My hands just seem to drink these products up and my hands, cuticles and nails are much more nourished than they were initially. I notice quite a difference in the way my hands look and feel if I get in a hurry and forget to use these, but as soon as I apply them, they look better instantly.

The products are both packaged in heavy frosted glass containers and they're priced at $15.00 (.6 fl. oz.) for the cuticle drops and $18.00 (1.7 oz.) for the hand creme.

Ingredients, Hand Creme: Aqua/Water/Eau, Phenyl Trimethicone, Propanediol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Tryglyceride, Isopentyldiol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Phytosterols PEG-20 Soy Sterol, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Argania Spinosa Kernal Oil, Simmonsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Persea Gratoissima (Avacado) Oil, Butyrosperfmum parkii (shea) Butter, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Squalene, Tocopherol, Batyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Polyacrylate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Trideceth-6, Parfum (fragrance), Sodium Hydrxide, Sodium Benzoate, Methylisothiazolinone, CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI15985 (Yellow 6), Benzyl Benzoate, Citral, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

Rosy Lips and Chocolates? Yes, Please! Giveaway and Review Featuring Vaseline Rosy Lips & MarieBelle Chocolates

Valentine's Day is almost here, so what better time to offer a giveaway to one of my lucky readers that includes Vaseline Rosy Lips for kissably soft lips, and a box of MarieBelle Chocolates to satisfy your sweet tooth?

Vaseline Lip Therapy recently introduced their "Rosy Lips", and after searching frantically for it, I picked up several of them last month. Always a fan of Vaseline's versatility for moisturizing and make up removal, this tiny tinted beauty balm quickly became a favorite of mine. In addition to the intended purpose of a deeply moisturizing lip therapy product, I also like to mix it with a bit of loose mineral blush for use as a cream blush.

This winter has been brutal on my skin, so thanks to Rosy Lips, my lips are hydrated and soft. Using it alone on my cheeks or mixing it with a mineral blush for more intense color, I no longer have to struggle with powder blushes over dry patches on my cheeks...never a good look for anyone! I've also mixed it with highlighting powder to impart a delicate sheen on my cheekbones. It is absorbed within a matter of minutes, and it adds additional much needed moisture to my face this time of year.

Retail: $2.29/0.25 oz.

Just fill out the information in the Rafflecopter widget to enter! Entries accepted through February 16, 2014. Must be 18 years of age to enter. Prize will be mailed directly from the manufacturer or PR firm, and entries are open only to residents of the U.S.A., excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Winner will be contacted via eMail.

*Prizes furnished by the manufacturer or PR firm.
