Reviva Labs Summer Skincare Giveaway/Review for May

We've partnered with Reviva Labs for six months of Summer Skincare Giveaways, and May offers one lucky winner a pair of products to get your tan on safely, and protect your pout from the sun! Reviva will be offering a giveaway every month through September on this blog and several others, so you'll have lots of chances to win some great products. Here's a description and review for each product in this month's prize pack:

Vitamin E Oil Stick: This little wonder stick provides a clear gloss on your lips that moisturizes and protects with an SPF 15 factor. It's never sticky, has little to no scent, and leaves your lips ultra-soft. It can also be used under the eye area for moisture and protection, and I've used it several times to moisturize my cuticles when I don't have a proper cuticle product handy. Reviva Labs informed me that your lips do not have Melanin in them, making them more vulnerable to the sun's harmful rays. Using an SPF product such as this one will protect them from burning and keep them hydrated. This is a product that I'm never without, and I always have a couple of tubes stashed away. It seems to melt right into my lips, and I find that it lasts longer than most lip balm protectants.

Ingredients: Soybean oil, candelilla wax, beeswax, castor oil, octylmethoxycinnamate, ozokerite, oxybenzone, cetyl esters, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), olive oil, allantoin, linden essential oil.

Tan Without Sun Face & Body Milk: This product gives my skin a nice touch of color within four hours, and I'm also able to use it on my face with no adverse reactions. This is a "milk" so it's a thinner formula making it easier to blend and apply to your skin, which reduces the chances of streaking. The smell is mild and much easier to tolerate than many other brands I've used. I use this for 3-4 days in a row to get my desired depth of color, then continue to use it twice a week to maintain a golden glow. The color lasts about 3 days without continued use, and gradually fades over that time. There is no SPF in this product, so use of a sunscreen is advised.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Glyceryl Stearate and PEG 100 Stearate, Dihydroxyacetone (keto sugar), Isopropyl Palmitate, Sorbitol, Coconut Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Myristyl Myristate, Cetyl Ester, Allantoin, ImadUrea, Methyl & Propyl Paraben, Lactic Acid. Does not contain Coloring Dyes, Stains.

Entry details: Prize package will be mailed directly from Reviva Labs, so all entrants must reside in the United States. Contest ends June 3 at 12:01 a.m. To enter, just leave a comment below and let me know how vigilant you are about using SPF products, especially during the Summer months. Do you insist on using products that contain an SPF factor? Also leave your eMail address so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you aren't comfortable sharing your eMail, be sure to check back on June 4 when I announce the winner, then you can contact me at mej0620@hotmail.com.

Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Review & Giveaway of 10 Sets!

Today I have a review and giveaway for the new Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy shampoo and conditioner. Ten lucky readers will receive a set of this breakthrough approach to haircare that's all about scalp nourishment.

If you're like me, you worry about repairing damaged hair and nurturing the hair itself. But it turns out that 99% of hair's natural strength and beauty comes from the scalp. The new Clean Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy products are revolutionary shampoos and conditioners that feed your scalp to create the right foundation for stronger, more beautiful hair in just 7 days. Specially formulated with Nutrium 10 technology--a rich blend of 10 vitamins and nutrients that feed your scalp. These products are clinically proven to help restore the natural moisture balance to your scalp. There are six customized ranges to choose from, so you're sure to find one that matches your needs.

The beautiful Heidi Klum was recently named the face of the Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy brand, and you can watch this video to learn more about the line.

The range includes Total Care (all hair types), Damage and Color Repair, Volumizing Root Boost, Strong Lengths, Moisturizing Dry Scalp, and Complete Care (for dandruff prone hair/scalp). The retail price ranges between $4.99-$5.99, and the bottles are 12.9 fl. oz. (shampoo) and 12.7 fl. oz. (conditioner). This product is available at many chain drugstores and retailers nationwide.

Here's a look at the ingredients on both the conditioner (above) and the shampoo (below). You can click the photos to enlarge.
I've been a "salon only" hair care brand consumer for decades, but have recently been using several different drugstore type of brands with equal or in some cases, better results. I've also recently realized that I don't need to shampoo my hair every day (I do use conditioner daily though), and that many products designed to nourish your scalp really do make my hair look much better--shinier, healthier, and fuller.
I've been using the Clear Scalp Hair Therapy set for Total Care for a solid two weeks now, and I even enlisted my husband to use my products over the last week. He was also happy with the results. They actually do make a line for men, which you can view here. The shampoo is very thick, which concerned me because I thought it might be too heavy for my hair. Another thing I noticed about the shampoo, is that you need very little to get a full head of lather, so a little goes a long way. This smells delicious, so that was just a bonus! The conditioner also smells wonderful, and it looks and applies like your typical hair conditioner--it has a medium consistency and it seems to rinse out thoroughly. While I didn't notice an instant change in my hair, I definitely noticed a change after the first week. I seem to have many more good hair days than bad with these products, and the great thing for fine-haired women like me is that my hair looks fuller. My hair is never smooth after blow drying, so I always flat iron it to control the flyaways. I've noticed that my hair is so much smoother with these products that I would almost feel comfortable skipping the flat iron process. I'm not quite ready to do that, but it does give me hope that with continued use, I'll be able to do that. I've got my color appointment next week, and the shine on my hair typically dulls about a week before my appointments. I've noticed that my shine factor seems to have been amped up after using these products, because my hair still looks nice and shiny. Unfortunately, I don't think the Clear Scalp & Hair has the ability to make me look as good as Heidi Klum though!
Clear Scalp & Hair has generously offered to give away 10 sets of their revolutionary hair care shampoo and conditioner to 10 lucky readers! Check out their web site and join them on Facebook if you'd like to learn more about their products and get some very useful hair care tips from Celebrity Stylist Jen Atkin and Francesca Fusco, M.D., who is Clear Scalp & Hair's Dermatologist. If you'd like to enter for a chance to win a set of shampoo and conditioner, just leave your eMail below in the comments. Contest ends May 26 at midnight, and 10 random winners will be selected and announced on Monday, May 28. Note: This sweepstakes contest is only open to residents of the U.S.

Come Monday...weekly newsletter

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I've drawn the winner of my Ahava Dead Sea Essentials giveaway with the help of Random.org, and congratulations to jadellsmom! As always, thank you to all who entered.

I took pictures of just some of the blooms in our yard this weekend, and this entire week is supposed to be filled with sunshine and warm temperatures!

Here's a quick look at some pictures I took with my cell phone this morning at Meijer showing a couple of "new to me" collections. The Maybelline Color Show line has a range of shades that retail for $3.19 each. I didn't see anything that I had to have, but the two blue tones in the upper left row were rather pretty. They appear to be a glass fleck finish, so I took a quick shot of those.

Then I spotted the Sally Hansen Magnetic polishes which retail for $7.99. I've still never used a magnetic polish, although I do have a couple of them. So no, I didn't pick any of these up either!
Have a fabulous week!

Dead Sea Essentials by Ahava Review & Giveaway!

Target has refreshed its bath and body aisle, providing guests with a wider variety of specialty bath and body products – all under $20. New offerings from Apotheke:M Suds & Luxuries, Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA, Nip + Fab, Pixi and Nicole by OPI are available now in Target stores and Target.com. – just in time to revamp spring beauty routines from head to toe. Today I have a look at three products from Ahava's Dead Sea Essentials line, and a little giveaway!

Witch Hazel Hand Cream: This rich and thick hand cream has a light pleasant fragrance and absorbs nicely into the skin with absolutely no greasy residue. I would describe this cream as the type that "melts" into skin. It leaves my hands feeling instantly soft, hydrated and nourished, and it feels very luxurious. This product also does a great job smoothing my cuticles and the skin right around my nails. Never one for reading directions, I just noticed that the back of the tube even states "...to condition cuticles and nails." $10.49 5.1 fl. oz.

Chamomile Mud Mask: I was a little afraid that this mask may dry my face out, but with ingredients like glycerin, aloe leaf extract, and jojoba seed oil, I needn't worry. I've used other mud and clay type masks that did a great job of purifying my face, but they left my skin feeling dry and tight. This mask leaves my skin looking and feeling soft and supple, to the point where I often skip my moisturizer after using it. I use this mask twice a week and simply apply it, leave it on for two minutes, then rinse. Soft and radiant are the words that come to mind after using this. $15.49 5.3 oz.

Tea Tree Oil Foot Cream: I've been using this on my feet to prep them for sandal season, and I love it! I tend to stay away from tea tree oil products simply because I don't like the smell of most of them, but this one has a light pleasant scent that simply smells a litle minty, if anything. Instant results are noticeable on dry or cracked heels. I usually use a foot file in the shower two to three times a week, and this product has softened my feet enough that once a week use of a foot file is all that I need. I've even been using this on my knees and elbows! $10.49 5.1 fl. oz.

Below is a list of products that Target stores are now stocking from this line:

Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA

Aloe Vera Body Lotion ($14.69): soothes and calms skin with Dead Sea minerals and aloe vera
Hibiscus Shower Cream ($12.49): includes anti-aging properties, restoring skin’s moisture balance
Witch Hazel Hand Cream ($10.49): provides deep hydration and instantly soothes chapped, dry hands
Water Lily Body Scrub ($14.99): removes dull surface cells while protecting skin against irritation
Tea Tree Oil Foot Cream ($10.49): contains anti-oxidant rich avocado, providing relief to tired, dry feet
Chamomile Mud Mask ($15.49): purifies skin, removing toxins and impurities for a deep cleanse
Bath Crystals ($14.99 each): contains 100 percent pure Dead Sea salts to soften the skin and relieve stress. Available in Lavender, Eucalyptus and Natural scents.

I don't like to offer giveaways of products unless I've actually used them, so I picked up a couple of matching products to my review for a little giveaway! Unfortunately, my Target did not have the Witch Hazel Hand Cream in stock, but I was able to get the Chamomile Mud Mask and the Tea Tree Oil Foot Cream. If you'd like to enter for a chance to be the winner of these two products, just leave a comment below with your eMail. If you'd prefer not to leave your eMail, be sure to check back Monday to see if you've won, then simply send me an eMail (mej0620@hotmail.com) with your mailing information. Have you ever used any Ahava products? If so, let us know your thoughts about them! Contest ends Monday May 14 at 9:00 am EST.

*Products for review were furnished by the manufacturer or PR firm for consideration.

Philosophy Big Lots Haul at $3.00 each!

There has been a lot of buzz about the fact that Big Lots recently received a Philosophy cosmetics shipment with loads of items for just $3.00 each. Of course I had to run in there when I was out and about today! Nouveau Cheap posted a very helpful Master List today, which you can find here. My Big Lots had lots of Philosophy goodies, and I found them in the regular cosmetics aisle. Some people are reporting that they are finding them on end caps, so check around your store before you give up. My store had about 15-20 pieces of each item, so I picked up 2 of each for stocking stuffers, giveaways, and myself. For $3.00 each, I'll overlook the orange price tags and the plastic hanging devices that normally irritate me because I like my boxes to look nice. This has got to be one of the best cosmetics deals ever from Big Lots!

The Supernatural Windows to the Soul eye shadow palette in Plum Delicious. This is a mineral powder collection with three shadows and an eyeliner, encased in a black plastic palette with the Philosophy logo imprinted on the cover.
The Angel Kiss lip gloss trio has three glosses encased in a palette with a white base and a shiny silver lid etched with the words "the color of grace".
The Shimmering Face Powder is in a heavy shiny silver compact, again with the words "the color of grace" etched on the cover.
The Angel Kiss Lip Gloss in Pretty Pink.
The Heavenly Light Pink Illuminator.
The Eyelighting Shadow Duo in color 01 Heaven/Earth.
The Art of Blushing powder blush palette in Pink Dreams is in an imitation leather wrapped case with a magnetic closure and black printing on the front.
The Amazing Grace Coloring Book holds two lip glosses, 2 eye shadows, a cream illuminator, a powder blush, and a shimmering face powder. This palette is also in an imitation leather wrapped case with a magnetic closure.
Lit From Within is a cream blush and the color is 03 Look on the Bright Side.

Have you spotted these at your Big Lots yet? If not, are you going to hunt them down?!!!

Fake Bake Gradual Self-Tan For Fair Skin

Fake Bake Gradual Self-Tan for Fair Skin has been successful in adding a touch of color to my skin this Spring with very little effort on my part. This product has a light articifial cocoa scent and gives immediate results that deepen gradually over time. Utizlizing it several days in a row will also intensify and deepen the color. It leaves my skin with a natural looking golden brown color, and not a hint of orange. I've used many self-tanning products over the years that leave a less than natural color or a few steaky areas, but I'm happy to report that this is not one of them.

The formula is a deep chocolate brown lotion of medium consistency. I simply apply it in place of my moisturizer for optimum results, or I mix it in with my daily moisturizer for a lighter tan. I've also used it on my face mixed with my facial moisturizer many times with no breakouts.

Below are the ingredients and additional information from the packaging.

My skin tone isn't "fair", but after a long Winter, it is quite pale. In my case, the fair is the perfect choice for this time of year until my skin has some sun exposure to naturally darken it up a bit. I used it 3 times the first week, and have since been applying it once a week to maintain the color level. Like most self-tanners, Fake Bake works best when applied to exfoliated skin. There's no need to exfoliate every time you use it, but dry areas will not appear to have an even color distribution without proper exfoliation. If your elbows and knees are particularly rough or dry, I would suggest mixing the Fake Bake with a little body oil or lotion before applying it to those areas. This product comes with rubber gloves and they recommend using them when you apply the lotion to keep the color from transferring to the palms of your hands. I have used it both with and without the gloves, and if I rinse my hands thoroughly after the application, my palms are not stained.

Fake Bake will give your the deepest color if you apply it at night. Leave yourself about an hour for it to absord/dry completely before going to bed, but you will be naturally bronzed in the morning! You may notice some color rinsing off in the shower, but your tan will not go down the drain. I used this more in the morning just because by the time I thought about applying it at night it was too late and I knew I wouldn't have the hour to wait. It works fine in the morning too, but the color takes several hours to really develop. Follow the directions and apply the lotion in circular motions, make sure your skin is prepped/exfoliated, and you should be all set to be sunkissed!

$29.95 - 6 fl. oz.
Available at FakeBake.com, Ulta, Amazon, and other retailers.

New Sally Hansen, Wet 'n' Wild & Massini Studio M's Sighted!

Meijer had some new displays today, so I took a couple of quick shots with my phone to share with you! I picked up some things from the Sally Hansen and Massini Studio M displays, but opted out of getting the Wet 'n' Wild products. Have a look:

Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure Limited Edition Runway Collection is a mix of cremes and shimmers in fourteen shades. The shades look like a mix of colors associated with Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.
The Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear display holds 4 shades, 2 cremes and 2 foil-type finishes.
Wet 'n' Wild's Sparks & Stripes is a glitter bomb explosion! The shades include 5 multi-colored glitters and 1 shade that has a milky/clear base with star shaped glitter.
Wet 'n' Wild's Beach Bomb Shell highlighters. If I recall correctly, these are available in 3 different shades. They look very pretty, and they're quite large.
Massini had a new end-cap display that contained quite a few core shades, but they also had some glitters that look to be core colors with glitter added. They're almost neon shades and from left to right are Glitter Twinkle, Glitter Solar, Glitter Outer Space, and Glitter Astral.
These are the four shades that I selected from the Sally Hansen display. From left to right are Temptation, a creamy peachy/tangerine shade, Olive Branch, an olive shimmer, Petrol, an inky deep cobalt that might have a jelly finish, and Loves Me Not, a deep purple shade filled with micro glitter. I'm most interested in seeing Loves Me Not on the nail, because if you look at the bottle pictures below this group shot, it seems to have an interesting and intricate look.

Have you spotted any of these displays yet?
