Come Monday...weekly newsletter

How was your weekend? Ours was nice...finishing up a mini face lift on our dining room, just hanging out, nothing exciting...just the way I like it! Did you watch the Oscars? I did not, but I did follow along via Twitter and Facebook, which is sometimes just as entertaining. I still think they should integrate makeup and nail looks into their fashion commentary though, so we knew what the stars were wearing in that department! Did anyone catch the view of the Moon, Venus, and Jupiter last night? I took the above photo from our side yard, but it was much more impressive in real life.

I've got a couple of things in Nail News to pass along to you today, which you may or may not already be aware of. Barielle has sort of dropped off of my radar over the past year--it seems that ever since they were purchased by Fisk Industries about a year ago, their collections have been far and few between. They seem to be getting back in the swing of things over the last couple of months though. Last week they sent over a package of goodies for me to review, and I noticed that the color chart they included mentioned something about 90 new shades coming soon. 90? Ninety? Seriously? That's a lot of new colors! They recently posted a video on their Facebook page showcasing all ninety of those new colors, and it looks like they've got some nice polishes coming up for us. You can check out their video here.

Bella Sugar is reporting that Essie and Toms have teamed up once again to bring awareness to the One Day Without Shoes initiative. Beginning March 7, they will be giving away 1,000 bottles of Barefoot in Blue every day for fifteen days. That's 15,000 bottles! You can read more about this great cause and how you can score your own bottle here.

Have you seen OPI's upcoming Spiderman Collection? This collection contains 6 shades, and is due to be released in May. I don't have an official press release, but you can Google search it to see the shades.

This is totally unrelated to nail polish and make up, but because I'm obsessed with the Amish, I wanted to pass this along in case you are too! I've always been fascinated with the lifestyle that the Amish try to lead in a world that seems to be in such stark contrast to their beliefs. We don't live too far from some small towns that are home to many Amish, and every time we're down that way, I find myself just wishing I could live their life for a day to see what it's like. My husband says I would never last because I wouldn't be able to plug in my flat iron. In all honesty, he's probably right about that. I know that not all of them are as strict in their beliefs as others, but I certainly respect the discipline of those who stay true to their faith. PBS will be airing a show called The Amish tomorrow night, so if you're interested in this culture, check it out.

That's it for this week. Enjoy these last few days of February, and know the Spring is just around the corner! If you'd like to join our Sunday Beauty Cafe chat on my Facebook page, we're talking about hand/nail/cuticle care and what works for you.

Photo sources for photos 2, 3, 4 are from the referenced web sites.

  4. I've recorded the show on PBS. I love the Amish culture. There are many Amish in Pennsylvania. I've been there many times. In the beginning I did many of the tourist things. After awhile my girlfriend & I just drove there and explored the area. We also did a lot of shopping. It's such a beautiful area. I wouldn't mind trying to live like they do for a bit. They have so much heavy work to do. No nail polish either!
