Earth Week Focus & Giveaway: Day Four!

Welcome to Day Four of my Earth Week Focus! With so much focus directed at the earth and our environment this week, we tend to think primarily about nature and animals and their safety and protection, as well as our own. I believe that it's also imperative to focus on better living standards for people in addition to the safer standards that we generally think of when discussing Earth Week. Shea Moisture sets a wonderful example of utilizing certified natural and organic ingredients, while helping to improve the lives of the people who produce them. It warms my heart to know that there are many companies out there who are willing to take this position of caring for both nature and people. They prove that companies can be financially successful and Eco and socially conscious at the same time (Are you listening, BP and Exxon Mobil?).

I posted a review a couple of weeks ago on some products (view here) from Shea Moisture that I'd picked up at my local Target store. It was was of my typical purchases--I knew nothing about the company, but was initially attracted by the color of the packaging! I read the labels and thought the ingredients sounded fantastic, but I was also taken by the little bit of company history printed on the label. After reading more about this company on their web site, I was truly impressed with their entire story, from their humble beginnings to their successful position in the industry that they have worked hard to attain. Here is just a little bit of their information:

The company purchases ingredients directly from women cooperatives and indigenous farmers in Africa, paying above market prices to help improve the standard of living for those suppliers. They are working closely with local and international organizations, including ECOSERVE and AFRICARE, to protect the integrity of ingredients and improve production processes to ensure sustainable harvests. Partnering with organizations such as The Liberian Education Fund and Todee Mission, the company is working to build schools and provide access to education for impoverished girls in Africa, many of who are suppliers of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and other natural ingredients.

Locally, the company provides community entrepreneurs, artists and authors a platform to sell their crafts, books, jewelry, clothing and other handmade products through the Sundial Stores. A percentage of sales are donated to local congregations to support youth and other community development programs.

How nice is that? There is a lot more "good" on their web site, so take a few minutes to become inspired by the people behind Shea Moisture. Another nice thing about them? Their products rock! No animal testing, 100% certified natural and organic, moisturizing and effective--and the scents? I can't even begin to explain how good these products smell, but trust me that they smell divine.

My latest acquisitions from Target (their products are also available at Walgreens and on their web site) are the Red Bush & Sage with Egyptian Musk soap and scrub. I fell in love with the scent of the Coconut Hibiscus products first, but now this may be my new favorite scent. I have a feeling I'll change my mind every time I try another one though! The soap is moisturizing and lathers up well, while rinsing clean leaving a soft, soothing scent. This is available in an 8 oz. bar in a variety of scents, and retails for $4.99.

The sugar-based scrub is packed with natural oils and extracts and does a great job of exfoliating, while leaving my skin soft as can be. It glistens and sparkles too! It's difficult for me to describe or compare this scent, because I've never come across anything like it. Fresh, clean, unique...all of that and more!

Shea Moisture makes a wide range of bath, body and hair products, so if you're looking for an all natural product within those lines, spend some time reading other reviews about them and check out their web site. You'll find high praise for their generous spirit of giving back, as well as for their products.

Are you ready for the giveaway part yet?!! One of my favorite items from their collection of products is the 100% Organic Shea Butter. I've used many products with shea butter in them, but I don't believe I've ever used pure shea butter. As I mentioned in my earlier review of this product, it works on everything from dryness issues, to cuticle problems, insect bites, lip moisturizing, dry feet and hands, stretch marks--you name it! Shea Moisture was very happy to be part of our Earth Week Focus, and generously furnished some of their 100% Organic Shea Butter to use as a giveaway. Rather than have one winner receive what seems like a lifetime supply, I'd prefer to pass around the love and let as many people as possible experience this brand.

Twelve winners will each receive a full sized jar (4 oz., retail $9.99) of Shea Moisture 100% Organic Shea Butter! I have a variety of scents available, so I'll randomly select one for each winner. As always, leave your eMail below in the comments as your entry. Entries for all of the Earth Week Focus prizes will be accepted until midnight Sunday, April 24. All winners will be announced in my Come Monday weekly newsletter on April 25.

Thank you Shea Moisture for your generous donation, but more importantly, for making a difference for our Earth and for the people.

*Prizes furnished by Shea Moisture/Sundial Brands.

I'm still on the hunt though, I want to try the 100% shea butter and the scrub, they both sound wonderful! I have to agree with you on the scents, I've sniffed three scents and loved them all! Bravo to Shea Moisture for being a wonderful company!
