Light Box!

I've been thinking about building a light box for a couple of reasons--less glare when I'm using an Ott lamp because we haven't seen the sun in months and the snow is 3' deep, a clean, uncluttered background--but I just haven't done it yet. I know they're not difficult to build, but I came across this little set-up for $29.99 and free shipping at Adorama.com. Here's the description:

Adorama De-Shadow Box, Table Top Photo Studio In-A-Bag, with 16" x 16" Soft Light Box, Halogen Lamps, Blue/White Background Sweep, Custom Carrier & Camera Stand.

It seems to have good reviews, and I can guarantee that if I made my own, it wouldn't look as neat as this one. It may not even look like a square or a box, for that matter! It folds flat for storing and it comes with the lighting and camera stand too. I'll report back when I receive it, so here's hoping it's as good as it sounds!

  1. The price is amazing for such a great setup!! Usually, light boxes don't come with lights or camera stands!

    You should get it!!

  3. I have that one! FWIW I don't like or use the lights it comes with, they don't seem to be as bright as I would like them to be. I went to home depot and bought different ones that clamp onto things for cheap then put daylight bulbs in them..it works a lot better (for me) than those little lights the set comes with

  8. I will definitely look forward to the reviews on that bad boy! If it seems to work out quite well, I might have to get one for myself! I built one, but it is already starting to look a bit beaten..

  12. That's a pretty great price for that amount of stuff. I got a similar (the same?) soft light box at Calumet Photo, also on sale, but that ALONE was 25 bucks.
I'd be careful with the pictured "tripod"(duopod?), though- it doesn't look like it has a back facing support leg, and if that's true, that isn't good...

  17. This is a fairly nice system, although I find myself using it less than I'd like. The reason being, my cats seem to think it's a playground for them, so I am reluctant to leave it set up! I've taken quite a few photos for a friend of mine who was listing eBay items and it does a nice job. The lighting seems to be sufficient, and it's very nice to have an uncluttered surrounding to the photos with even lighting and no reflections or glare like I get with an Ott lamp. I just don't take the time to set it all up each day for the couple of minutes that it takes me to photograph my nails each day. Darn cats!
