Below: Ulterior Motive is one of my favorites from this set--it applied nicely (but using 3 coats), dried quickly, and is a bright fuchsia shade filled with deep pink and violet foil micro glitter. The finish on the base color is almost a jelly--very translucent, yet quite pigmented. Don't get me wrong, because with all of that glitter, you're not going to actually have a jelly finish! Depending on your lighting, you can glimpse a foil-like finish.
Below: Alias is an alias indeed! This shade looked more like a duo chrome in the promo pictures, and it is a duo chrome...when it decides it wants to be! For the most part, it looks like it does in this first photo. It's a grape shade with purple foil micro glitter, and there's a small amount of silver micro glitter mixed in as well.
Below: If you manipulate your hand around enough, and take it into different lighting until you find some that it likes, you can coax the duo chrome out. This photo was taken under my bathroom lighting (halogen). You can see the olive and purple colors, and I did notice a flash of darker blue with violet at times also. It's a little like Orly's Space Cadet when it shows its duo chrome side. This is a very stubborn duo chrome, and I'm hoping once the sun comes out, I can take a look at it outside and be amazed, but I'm not going to get my hopes up anymore.
Below: Alter Ego is the other polish that I thought was a duo chrome based on the promo pictures. I couldn't get any duo chrome out of this shade, no matter how hard I tried. That's not to say it isn't an interesting polish, because I actually think it's quite unique. This is a muted purple shade with a lot of silver micro glitter, giving it a foil finish in brighter lighting. Alter Ego is sparkly and elegant, bringing to mind the color of grapes on the vine covered in frost on a cool Fall morning.
Below: Here it is shown using just 2 coats, so you can get an idea of the "thin" coverage and why I think 3 coats is a better way to go. This photo, shown with a flash, reveals additional colors of glitter.
Below: Secret Agent is a vivid lavender shade, bordering on violet. This is a metallic finish and it has a bright pink iridescent flash to it which is more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail.
Below: Masquerading is another one that I really liked from this collection. This is the only one that covered perfectly using 2 coats. The metallic finish is relatively brush-stroke free on this silvery/mossy green shade with a hint of blue.
Below: Total Mystery is an inky cobalt blue with multi colored micro glitter. The glitter is more distinct on the base than I was able to capture with my photos. This reminded me of Orly's In the Navy and Orly's Lunar Eclipse.
Not that this is a bad collection, but I think had I not gotten so excited over the promo pictures and expected them to look more like those--particularly Alter Ego and Alias--I might be inclined to rave a little more about these. I will say that although some of them are not what I'd hoped for, I've still discovered much beauty in them. I wasn't overly excited about the other boxed set, Reveal Your Mystery, but now that I see that set in person, it looks much more appealing. I think I'm just a bad judge of polish character!
What do you think? Do you see anything you like from this collection?
