Chanel's Riva is scheduled for a December 1 release, although the rumor mill is saying that it's already sold out. While I don't quite understand that--how can it hit boutiques and counters if it's already sold out--I guess we'll have to wait and see on that. The retail price on Riva is $39.00. Which leads me to ask, why? With a standard retail price of $23.00, has any reason been given for this huge price increase? Are all of their polishes going to reflect this price in 2011? If anyone has heard the reason, let us know!
I have read several articles regarding a price increase on their bags, and one sales associate was quoted as saying "We don't want Chanel to become like Louis Vuitton. They are taking more of an Hermes approach where it can take three years to get the bag you like," she said. "We want Chanel to stay a lux item and not be Main Street."* Perhaps that reasoning extends to their cosmetics line as well, if it's true.
This brings me to my next question...will you be purchasing Riva? Never say never, but I doubt that I will. Partially because of the price, but mainly because although I think it's a lovely color, the shade doesn't seem all that extraordinary to me. Nylon Magazine offered a dupe recipe for Riva that consists of six parts of an opaque white polish, two parts of Brucci Bert's Blue, and one part of Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear's Blue Me Away. I have no doubt that many of you, with your dedication and talent for Frankening, will be able to come extremely close to this shade.
