My Most Anticipated Fall Collection? Orly Cosmic FX

If you click on the picture, you'll get an up-close look at this totally unique offering that includes 6 shades, and while they all look stunning, Galaxy Girl and Space Cadet are the two I'm most excited about. Do you notice how the box reads "6 pix from the Cosmic FX color collection"? Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but it makes me wonder if "6 pix" is a reference to the fact that there could be more shades added to this collection in the future.
These are set to debut in September at a retail price of $10.00 each. Yikes! Maybe that's because they're infused with crystals for a multi-dimensional shine. I never thought I'd see the day we'd be paying $60.00 for a collection from Orly, but that day may have arrived. Keep in mind that last year's Fall collection from Orly, Once Upon A Time, runs $22.50 at Victoria Nail Supply. There have been rumblings in the nail polish circles that Orly is considering changing it's pricing structure to follow the way of OPI, meaning that they'd be considered "salon only" and eTailer pricing would all but disappear. I don't think that's why these are priced so high because that hasn't actually happened yet. My guess is that their price is based on the formulation, but what do I know? I have a pricing question in to Yen at VNS regarding the Cosmic FX collection, but she's getting ready to leave for the Cosmo Prof show, so I don't know how quickly I'll hear back. My hope is that they'll have the same approximate 30% discount that we enjoy now, as compared to the Sally Beauty price of $5.49, making them $7.00 each.
So tell us...which one collection are you most excited about? I think most of the Fall collections have been announced, although I am very curious to see what Barielle has to offer. Personally, I thought their 2009 ALU Fall Collection was wonderful, so I'm hoping they can come out with something just as tempting.
I'm loving this collection. Looks like some very pretty colors :)
ReplyDeleteOk now this is MY favored fall collection!
ReplyDeleteI want Halley's Comment!
OMG so awesome looking!
It's Not Rocket Science looks gorgeous too, and so does Lunary Eclipse!
Galaxy girl it's hard to tell, but is probably gorgeous too.
Wow, All of them, really.
WoooooW! Halley's Comet and Space Cadet are calling my name :D My no-buy is getting a serious pounding! A normal Orly polish in Oz is $18.95 a bottle (works out to around $16 US), so if they charge any more for this collection (when we finally get it) they might as well just take our firstborns and be done with it ;D
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I always wanted most of them, now I want them all...can't wait for these to hit the etailers!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, they are the best collection of the season!
i can't wait it drops my bday month SHOULD have extra money. i love them all. orly is taking it on. hope the etailer get it that way its cheaper and im able to cop more colors
ReplyDeleteIm excited for this Collection, OPI Swiss, Chg VV, CC oh heck I'm just excited for all of them, I'm loving all these great fall/winter collections!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to wear It's Not Rocked Science. I don't even know all the collection coming out. I'm behind as usual with the blogs. I have my favorite blogs that I read and answer all the time. Damn, why does Orly need to raise their prices so high? Thanks for the pics. They sure do look pretty and I'm also loving Space Cadet and Galaxy Girl. I especially can't wait to see what Galaxy Girl looks like on the nail.
ReplyDeletei am with you on this, my fav by far, but I don't think i will buy as a set, maybe pick a few up at a time.... i definitely hope they are discounted at sally's!
ReplyDeleteThis display looks very pretty, and I can't help but wonder if Orly is doing this to compete with Opi's DS Series. I will reserve my choices on these until I see swatches though.
ReplyDeleteMan, all my brands are gonna wanna follow with OPI and leave e-tailers. These are a little steep, but I'm sure I'll end up shelling out the cash for them. I agree with Starlight, I think they're trying to copy OPI's DS.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I wish these weren't so expensive. :( Galaxy Girl looks totally awesome - it reminds me of a more intense sibling of the teal-flash version of MPJ. I only hope these aren't too sheer..
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my most anticipated collections until I hear $10 each. That is a lot for Orly. That's what I've loved most about Orly, they are a good polish for not too much money. I really hope they don't follow in OPIs footsteps. Whose next? China Glaze? All of these polishes are turning 'salon' even our drugstore favorites have spike to $7 or $8. I'm still excited for this collection though. I like Space Cadet, It's Not Rocket Science, and Galaxy Girl. Any word on when these might be coming out?
ReplyDeleteis this going to sold as a set alone or will you be able to buy them individually?
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! You're so right about this being the most anticipated collection of this autumn! I wish it was September!
ReplyDeletehi mary :D i finally got around to posting about your giveaway prizes :D thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThis collection is HOOOOOOOOT!!
ReplyDeleteWait?!... did I read that right $60 bucks..well I'll wait to see swatches before I grab the ones I want, that's a big jump!
ReplyDeleteI'm not opposed to the $10 price tag, I'M OPPOSED to the huge price hike!!!
Out of the fall collections that have not yet been released, I am definitely looking forward to Cosmic FX the most--I just wish they didn't cost $10 each. I will definitely be looking at swatches before I buy!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I love Orly and this collex looks fabulous :D I can't wait. I just hope I can find it. I don't think I have ever seen one (a complete Orly collex like that).
ReplyDeleteps - check your spam, I sent you an email ;o)
Ehh $10 is pretty steep, especially when you're addicted to buying polish (like me). I hate forking out that much when I can get a China Glaze or Color Club for like $3, but I DO love glittery colors! I guess we'll see..
ReplyDeleteI have followed Michelle Mismas All Lacquered Up web blog and when she helped design her "Barielle Shades" collection I just had to purchase it. Plus, at the time it was 2 for 1. So it was like half off the original price for all the colors. It's still my favorite collection.
ReplyDeleteI also have Kelly's "Vampy Varnish," nail polish collection from BB Couture when that came out. It's only six shades but they are still beautiful to use.
I'm with the other commenters and hope that Orly sticks with etailers. I wasn't really into NP until late 2008 so I pretty much missed the 'glory days' of etailers and my ChG-heavy stash mirrors that. If ChG and Color Club become all we have left, at least we're in good company. I feel like they've really made a push at trying to fill the voids left by Essie and OPI while still giving it their own spin.
ReplyDeleteLove this collection, they are gorgeous
