Essie The Summer Collection Swatch Samples

The Essie Summer 2010 Collection will be available June 1. This collection includes 6 shades and I believe they're all cremes, with the exception of Demure Vixen which has an iridescent finish. *Click photo to enlarge*

Above L-R: Vermillionaire, Pretty Edgy (the Dominican green dupe), Miss Matched, Knockout Pout, Haute As Hello, Demure Vixen.

The swatches are somewhat brighter and less muted than the promo photos I've seen, and I personally think they're prettier this way. What do you think? Do you see any you love? I'm almost certain the frontrunner of this collection will be Pretty Edgy, because greens get a lot of love from us and dupes for long discontinued popular shades always seem to do well. I imagine the L'Oreal effect is already starting, because I haven't been able to get samples of these yet. I don't mind that aspect of the buyout, but I will be bothered if L'Oreal starts making changes to the formula and the creativity that have made Essie one of my favorite brands. Here's something interesting I came across a few weeks ago that I wasn't aware of: Essie Weingarten started in the business with Forsythe Cosmetics (the makers of Color Club), leaving them in 1981 to start what we now know as Essie. The source for this information was an interesting read, and you can find the article here. I would love to have some of those original unbranded bottles of polish they mention in my own collection--and $1.00 a piece!

  1. Such an interesting article. Thanks for this, Mary! I do have some Essies in the old bottle with no "e" on the cap. I bought a boatload of them a few years ago.

Thank goodness it seems that I only want 2 from this collection - Pretty Edgy being a must have and Vermillionaire being a "good to have" only.

  2. hmm why don't those plastic nails have white tips so you can see how opaque a polish really is...

i think demure vixen is the only non creme, a mauve with a blueish lilac flash??? the collection reminds me a lot of the sparitual spring collection only different finishes i guess. But still nice enough for me to get greedy ;)

    thanks Mary :)

  7. I actually like every color. I hope the buyout doesn't mean you won't get samples. Your swatches help me decide what to buy! :)

  8. I love the 3 first, definitely. I don't know if the first would suit me but the green is definitely a must-have as I love yellow based green.

I really love Essie, this might be my favorite brand for a long while. Now, knowing how L'Oréal lobotomize every brand they acquire (they did that with Agnès b. cosmetics which were so cool before they get acquired by L'Oréal), I hope this won't be the case with Essie and that the quality and exigence of the brand will still be there. In short, I hope Mrs Weingarten will keep her independance. But to be honest I'm expecting some change, unfortunately. Let's wait and see.

  9. I wonder if they are trotting out every popular/coveted color. L'Oreal seems to have done that with the copy of the North Fork Collection.

Will Viva La Vespa be next?
The green, I thought, in Dominica Green was a frost/metal? I've only seen photos.
Still, greens and bright orangey reds are nice for summer!

  10. The green looks pretty!
I'd love to see how it compares to other green cremes like this.

  11. Oh, Loreal will not be changing the essie price or the formula, I did a post about this on my blog. Phew!
