Above & Below: I picked these book shelves up at Big Lots and thought they'd be an inexpensive way to store my stash. On the left are 2 book cases (I'm having my husband make more shelves for the one on the left) and on the right is a CD rack with my untried's. That's one of my cats in the middle! Below is just a close-up of the right book shelf.

I've been busy all day entering my polishes into a new spread sheet and organizing them in a way that I hope will make my life so much easier! I'm not done yet, but I just chopped my nails off because I was having trouble typing into the spread sheet! I showed you the CD rack I am using for my untried's a couple of weeks ago, and I think I've gotten all of the untried's organized on that now. It's almost full, so no more new ones until I clear a little space off of there. I picked up a couple of book cases at Big Lots a few weeks back and my husband put those together for me and is making some more shelves for them so I can set the spacing closer together to accommodate my precious little bottles. He thinks I'm a freak I'm sure, but we're still married after all of these year, so I think he just accepts it.
I'm organizing the polishes by brand right now just for the sake of getting them in place and entering them in the spread sheet. I'll go back later and then organize by color within the brand. I've put my treatments, manicure supplies and boxed sets on the lower shelves, along with products I've received for upcoming reviews and giveaways/contests. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it's turning out...it's not ideal, but unless I take over a bigger room (this is my office, which was an extra bedroom originally) and have some sort of cabinets custom-made, this will be fine. I do want to remain married, so I don't want to push things too far. I should be all done next week, but I'm a little afraid to total up everything once I get my spread sheet done! And yes, after working on this project for a couple of weeks now, I do realize the severity of my addiction :) I've only found 2 dupes so far and I've rediscovered some polishes that I'd forgotten about, so it's been a fun experience.

I've been wondering how to store my polishes, where I can "see" them. This is a great way to store your polishes. That's so nice of your husband to put it all together. Mary your too funny,"I do want to stay married"...speaking of staying married. I misplaced my keys last week end. My husband was helping me to look for them. He decided to look in my desk.( It has a total of 7 drawers, three on each side,and one in the middle.) Well six of the drawers are completely full of nail polish. This is an old fashioned desk with deep and long drawers...and I heard him say," Good God,how much nail polish do we need!" He had no idea that I had that much polish...lol! I thought to myself...."Hmmm...maybe I better go on a no buy for awhile...hehehe!!

WOW thats a huge collection. My mom thinks I have a lot and my boyfriend I think is starting to think that too but I have a VERY small collection compared to yours. I think the spreadsheet idea is brilliant. How did you organize the spreadsheet? By brand or brand then color? :)
Wow you have a huge collection! The storage idea is great. My collection is only just starting to grow. I have just taken over a bed room to store and create nail art. The husband is quite supportive cos he's taken up the bigger room to store his comics and games! Haha

Mary, that is AMAZING! I love what you're doing, I think that is a fantastic idea. My collection is nowhere near that size, but I think it'd be neat if I had one shelf - I definitely wouldn't need two, haha, I could put all my polish plus my untrieds on one. Yours is awe inspiring, it's like a little library of color!

My collection is nowhere near requring a bookshelf, but I feel that I will be at that point in due time. I've got about 100 bottles spread out between two plastic boxes now, haha!

Amazing collection! Thanks for posting your collection pictures. Whenever I see others photos I get ideas for my own collection. I think I might have about as much as you! I have 2 six drawers storage units. They're packed except for one drawer. Your collection is done so nice and neat. The only thing I think of is dust. I hope your cat doesn't like to get up on the shelves! I have 2 bookcases and was thinking of doing the same thing as you. I just don't have the husband to make me more shelves! I also stored mine by brand. They're all jumbled up together. I used to have them sorted by color. I need some Helmers. Have a nice weekend.

We could compare obsessive compulsive tendencies. :) I've got the spreadsheet too, but all the polish is tucked away in Helmers. I have stick swatches of all of them arranged by color (I need to post about that one of these days) so I can see what I have, and just yesterday I labeled the tops of the bottles so I can find stuff! My trusty spreadsheet tells me that I have twice as many untrieds as I do trieds. :-|

Wow, I think we are siblings. I hide my polishes in Helmers (currently 5 of them) as to not get hubby too upset.
Every time I get a new Helmer he grumbles... but I just say: ohh preciousss, where have you been all of my life... :-D
What an amazing collection of nail polishes! Nice storage idea, I like the book shelves because you can display them as opposed to the IKEA helmer, where they would be hidden. Ah sounds like you have quite the task ahead of you if you're going to make a spread sheet, good luck!
