Below: The products pictured below will be just some of the Natural & Organic products included in this month's prize baskets for the August Contest winners. I should have the baskets put together over the weekend and I'll post a picture and a complete list of the contents.
Now that the Zoya madness has died down, I'll get back to some other product lines that also fit nicely into our Natural & Organic Beauty month feature. I spend too much time perusing the internet in search of new beauty products, but in doing so, I come across some wonderful companies that although not as well known as many of the larger brands, the quality of the products and the customer service are excellent. One such company is The Savannah Bee Company. They are a small company, located in Savannah, Georgia, specializing in honey-based products. They offer a very nice selection of Artisanal Honey in many different flavors, as well as a small selection of body care products. Their website is filled with interesting information, including a section containing honey recipes. They all sound delicious and I was especially interested in many of the beauty recipes they offer utilizing honey. I'm going to try some of them out sometime! When I was speaking with Christy from Savannah Bee Company (who was extremely kind and helpful), she told me that she keeps a jar of their Raspberry Honey in the shower and uses it as an exfoliating treatment on her skin, targeting the face, elbows and knees. I have often read about the many benefits of honey as a beauty treatment, and it's really quite an impressive product that bees produce. Not only is it great in cooking, but it also has many benefits medicinally-speaking. It has long been touted as a natural healing serum for everything from healing cuts and wounds to treating digestive problems. It contains many anti-oxidant and cleansing properties for our bodies, both internally and externally.
Today's review focuses on one of the most popular products they manufacture, their Royal Jelly Body Butter. I'm a pushover for cute packaging, so of course that was the first thing I noticed when I opened the package. It comes in a hinged box with honeybees gracing the lid. The inside of the lid features an interesting explanation of what 'Royal Jelly' is. The box states 'A Nutrient-Rich and Protective Formula that's fit for a Queen', and I would have to agree with that. If I had to sum this product up in one word, that word would be luxurious. It's a body butter, so it's thicker than most moisturizing lotions, but not too thick that it hinders the application. It has a very faint scent of blackberries, one of the ingredients, but it didn't interfere at all with my perfume. It felt a bit greasy just after applying it, but dried down quickly and left my skin extremely soft. It also contains beeswax, which is a natural emollient that not only alleviates dryness, but protects your skin. I normally apply a bit of Aquaphor on my elbows before going to bed at night because they're a little rough, and I noticed that when I went to do this last night, they were still smooth as could be from using the Royal Jelly 16 hours earlier. Some of the other ingredients include Shea butter, glycerin, pecan seed oil, and additional natural ingredients along with the honey and Royal Jelly. The packaging contains recycled material, and the glass jar and aluminum cap are also recyclable. The Savannah Bee Company does not test on animals, which is always a huge plus to me. This product retails for $25.00 for a 6.7 oz. jar and while that may seem a bit expensive, it does work extremely well. I think I'll use this more as a target treatment on problem areas, rather than a complete body moisturizer so it lasts a little longer for me. I'm sure I'll use it occasionally as a body moisturizer, especially when I want to feel like a Queen.
I have some other products from The Savannah Bee Company I'll be sharing with you later in the month and some of their products will also be in the August Contest prize baskets. If you'd like to win you own full-sized jar of the Royal Jelly Body Butter, leave your e-mail below in the comments section and I'll cross-post on Twitter for those of you who follow me there. I'll randomly select a winner tomorrow morning from the entries I've received at that time.
